Enough already. :headache: My 5 year old has been running a high fever (around 102 to 104) for the past 5 days now. We give her Ibuprofen and it goes down for around 6 to 9 hours, and then spikes back up. For the past 2 nights she has woken at 5 am to use the bathroom. Her fever has been really high and she ends up vomiting. She has some congestion and coughing, but not too bad really. Her oxygen level was 98 and her lungs were really clear. (unlike her sister who was sick earlier.) When her fever is down she seem ok and is keeping food down fine otherwise.

We took her to a clinic yesterday (not her normal ped since it was Sunday.) They ran tests and said it was only a virus. Her ears where clear, lungs were good, strep was negative (but they though it might be that) and the urine labs were clear, but they send them out for more analysis.

I asked when it should get better, she said day 5 or 6. Still I am at my wits end. Her sister was sick on Monday a week ago with a cough so bad she needed a chest X ray. It was clear, and she still has a cough, but is much better (starting on Thursday the same day her sister starting getting sick.)

So this is day 8 in the house with nothing to do, except doc visits and a few to the store. Last week was our winter break from school, so it was out. She is absent today though and is looking like she will be tomorrow too.

My house is a mess, I feel like crap too and I don't have the energy to take myself to the doctor.

I know I am having a total pity party. When does it end?

I completely understand. My kids & I have been taking turns being sick for the last month and a half.

I worked a 16 hour shift Saturday & a 12 hour shift Sunday & when I got home yesterday both my girls had fevers. I'm so tired.

I'm sorry you are frustrated, sick, and tired. :grouphug:

If you don't get answers, I would take her back.

I empathize! I actually asked our ped that "When does it end?" question the other day. 5yo DS has had a temp on and off the last couple of days. 8mo DS is on his 7th ear infection since November. He was supposed to get ear tubes a couple of weeks ago but he got bronchiolitis so they couldn't give him anesthesia. We're in a catch-22. The tubes surgery was postponed, but the bronchiolitis isn't clearing completely because his ears aren't clearing completely.

To top it off, DH has been training in another state for 5 months now (2 more to go!) and my work drastically changed our sick time policy this year. We used to have 12 days a year with carryover (I had about 2 weeks left of sick time since I used a lot for maternity leave). Now we only get 5 sick days a year, no carryover. So I to try to work at home partially when the kids can't go to day care.

Enough vent from me, hope you and your kids get healthy soon!

Thanks guys. Sorry others are sick too. It sure is a bad time of year. I just heard back from DD's teacher and most of the kids were absent today for one reason or another.

I am going to take them both back to their own Ped on Tuesday if the fever isn't gone. The 2 year old has a bad diaper rash now too, I wonder if there is any connection. I will drag my sorry self into the doctor too. I just wonder if the lab results were false negative with the strep?????

At least my brother got home from the airport on time (I hope.) He had to pick his older kids up from the airport, but his 11 year old had a dental appt at 3:00 and he wasn't sure if he could make it in time. I really didn't want to go out in the snow and cold with 2 sick kids (and a sick myself). Also I didn't want the girls at the dental office so I would have had to wait in the car with them (at least we have a DVD player in there.)

This just seems like an awfully long and persistent virus!

Just sending hugs and well wishes your way!!! i understand the frustration when you have no answers for a fever!!!

Did they do a flu test? My DD was sick for almost 2 weeks with exactly those same symptoms. I was beginning to wonder if she would EVER get better!

Did they swab either of them for influenza? Sounds a lot like the time my kids had something like that, and about at the same age. We got the shot for them every year after that, it was a nightmare 2 weeks!:scared1: DS actually threw up from the fever and aches of the flu, which most adults do not do with influenza. Good luck!

Oh, those darned viruses. They can last awhile. My DS was sick last year with one and, it was true, he didn't start to get better until day 6. And it was not influenza.

Hang in there!

count my family in as well. Last Sunday came home from work with dd 3 had a fever all day took her to the doctors monday double ear infection. On tuesday I started getting sick and was sick until Saturday night ( not bad just a bad cold) Came home from work yesterday and dd 6 has a bad sore throat. No fever yet maybe tomorrow. :scared:

I hear ya... DD also 5 has been sick with a fever for a couple days and the others have had the stomach flu last week...

I NEED SPRING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:flower3:

Hang in there. The diaper rash is probably mucus or post nasal drip she is swallowing. Dry heat from a hair dryer really helps at diaper changes. The Dr will probably tell you to by Lotrum...the foot cream.

Viruses can last 2 weeks it is very frustrating & scary.

I can sympathize. The past two weeks my 3 kids have been sick twice. Fever and vomitting too. Now my youngest two are coughing in their sleep.

No they didn't. We did not get the shots this year (but normally do.) Actually Lily never has since she is allergic to eggs. Last year they did run a test on Anna when she was sick to see if it was the flu since Lily can't have the shot. They didn't mention it this time.

We don't normally get the flu either. In fact except for this past week we have all been super healthy this year. No other doctor visits, and just the normal runny nose light cough for a few days here and there.

tmw is day 6 (for the high fever, day 9 for sick family.) I am at my wits end. She is sleeping now (she has been awake since 5:30 when she woke up ill again.) and is snoring pretty bad, so I guess she is rather congested.

I might just call my on call nurse and vent at her. She is good about that, but I hate to bug here now. I know there are a lot of sick kids out there and I already had to call the on call doc yesterday to take her into the after hours clinic. Still I could see if they got the test results back from the urine sample. If they were positive or different in anyway they would be calling me though.

Have you thought of bronchitis? I diagnose my kids all the time. DD13 to dr. thurs., DS18 to dr on friday. I diagnosed DS with bronchitis and that's what it was. DD had fever for 5 days (she got sick 1 day before DS). Well, there were 2 different dr.s and my daughters' turn into bronchitis over the weekend and she was getting hives! I tried to go over her diet and figured out it was the amoxocillin. I've been calling the dr. to call in a rx for bronchitis( she's coughing her brains out). I can sympathize. It's very stressful for everyone. Here's wishing better health (physical and mental) to all.

She was a lot closer to potty trained (use the potty a number of times a day.) but with us all being sick she doesn't as much lately and I wonder about that. I still think I could leave her with out a diaper and be safe, she can hold it pretty well. She always tells us when she needs to get out of the tub to use the potty. She hates any cream on her though.

I don't have 2 weeks! :scared1: We have one week from today when DH and I leave, and I don't want to leave sick kids behind. That will be 2 weeks since the whole thing started though. This is our 1st (and maybe only) trip with out the kids. I don't want to send my BIL and SIL sick kids to get their 11 month old sick.

It is just so frustrating not being able to do anything for it. We did all the normal homeopathic things like zicam and other vit c and herbs. Lots of water, vaporizer in their room. I do not like taking antibiotics if not necessary, but I am ready to bring on the drugs!

Thanks for the hugs and good wishes everyone. This will get better soon, or I will be back at the doctors begging them for something. :thumbsup2

I get bronchitis and sinuses infections all the time. (or at least in the past).

For DD the doc said just yesterday her lungs sounded very good, her oxygen level was 98 and that wasn't bad too for a cold. (not perfect, but not bad at all.)

DD is allergic to penicillin. She had a major rash reaction to it when she was 9 months old. We were at WDW at the time. :scared1: Thank goodness for Centra care. Both DH and I are allergic to it also, but we don't think Lily is. (my 2 year old DD.)

Hi-ho...I will join you in pity.:lmao:

I was sick 2 weeks ago for 1 week....:headache:

The last Thur. 10yodd gets sick. Tests postive for Flu on Friday (which btw was DH's 40th b-day...so throw going out down the tubes:sad2: )

Today take 10yodd back to ped because she is coughing horribly and has a rash.
Ped gives her Albuterol script, yes she is wheezing. She had asthma treatments when she was smaller.
Rash...:confused3 well she things "viral"...I hope she is right.

Me...I still have not "gotten well". I am still coughing and feel like BLAH!:headache:

Did I mention my b-day is tomorrow...:sad2: Well scratch any celebrations there.

So at this point...
GET OUT OF HERE ILLNESS SO I CAN GET ON WITH LIFE!!!!!!

OK rant over....:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

May. Seriously, I just heard that kids are usually sick 80 days between October and May. Fortunately, my kids were always sick as babies and toddlers, that they've only been sick about 2 weeks this winter! I think they caught all of the virus's already!

I know it is frustrating, but there is NOTHING they can give you to heal a virus. Just bringing them in exposes them to more germs - the only time we go near the pediatrician, besides annuals, is if I suspect strep - I'll give an ear infection a couple of days, because most of the time it's viral, and will clear up without antibiotics.
