We were planning to book the Magic out of Miami for December 2014 but with it being moved I will have to wait and see what happens. My question is when does DCL start decorating for Christmas? I do not want to travel the week of or the week after Christmas. Will they be up in early to mid December? Or will I need to travel much closer to Christmas? Thanks :goodvibes

Most of the decorating is done on the cruise that starts after Thanksgiving. That said, sometimes they get an early start on some of the decorations a little before that. Decorations come down the cruise after the one that covers New Years.

We were on a Dec 11th cruise on the Wonder and the decorations were up.

We were on the Fantasy in November and returned the 10th to port Canaveral. We had asked the same thing and were told that Christmas decorations were going to be put up after we got off :worried: Had we got on the 10th we would have seen the Christmas decorations. So I think a safe bet is the 2nd week of November.

Great. We were looking at the 17th on the Magic from Miami (or Wonder I guess) or the 12th on the Dream so we should be safe. Thanks :thumbsup2

How sad. So sorry you missed them. :sad2: I just think that would make for a wonderful vacation even if it is too cold to enjoy CC.

The four ships are decorated in a certain order with decorations being trucked in from WDW. Last year The Magic was last to be decorated late Nov and the first to be undecorated on 12/29 (the day we disembarked)

We took a Nov cruise before Thanksgiving in 2011 on the Wonder and the decorations were going up. Gingerbread house was being built all week. No Holiday events were going on during that cruise, but the decorations were up.

I vaguely remember this question coming up last holiday season. The answer I remember was the cruise that left 11/17. That is the same time they decorate the resorts and parks as well. They definitely do have the ship decorated for the Thanksgiving cruise.

Our very first Disney cruise was a four day cruise on the Wonder departing November 14, 2010.

The terminal at Port Canaveral had a few decorations. The Wonder had a giant Christmas tree in the Atrium. Also, the banisters of the staircases were wrapped in garland. Castaaway Cay had a few touched of Christmas.

Funny side note: Every cruise since then, the photo that shows up when they scan our KTTW cards as we re-board the ship after each port has a Christmas wreath in the background. It's the photo from that first cruise --- the only time we have cruised with any Christmas decor.

Thanks for all your replies. I think we will be okay since we want to sail the second or third week of December. :goodvibes

I was on the Wonder for Thanksgiving 2011. The cruise began a few days before Thanksgiving, and was decorated when we boarded.

Awesome! We are booked on the Thanksgiving 2014 cruise on the Dream. Definitely looking forward to the Christmas decorations.

Thanksgiving 2012, the Magic was not decorated.they were decorating as we disembarked.

This was out if Galvastin?

I remember a video clip on DCL Facebook page last Year about them making the decorations for the Fantasy. It was about how they were peacock inspired to match the decor on the ship. Anyway, in the video they were at a big warehouse somewhere near WDW. They said all the WDW and DCL Holiday decorations were stored there.

Maybe they just weren't able to get the decorations to Galvastin before Thanksgiving?
