We are having our son's birthday party on the 8th and I was wondering if I should take down all of our Christmas decorations? Usually we wait about two weeks into January to pack it up but with company coming I don't want to look like a slacker. :rotfl2:

Usually right before new year's eve. I have friends though that keep their Christmas stuff up until March -- and they set it up the day after Halloween! I say to put everything away. People may wonder hy it's still up in mid-January.

I like the outside ones down after New Year's day, but dh would be happy to leave them up until Easter! ;) It was warm here this weekend (40's) so we got it all done yesterday! I am glad because it's in the teens again today, brrrr. I have to get rid of the stuff inside by New Year's day, I like getting my house back to "normal".

I take everything down on New Year's Day...especially since at that point, our tree stops being watered and is extremely dry...hate seeing them come down though! :sad1:

Being my birthday is Dec. 29th and DH is Jan 4th I like to leave the decorations up. But DH likes to get it done quick so we took it down yesterday. OP if you're used to leaving them up til the middle of January I would keep them up. The house looks prettier and maybe your company hasn't seen your tree yet?? I wouldn't think you were a slacker

I usually take them down New Year's weekend, but only because we homeschool and I want to just be ready to start back at it come that Mon.

My neighbor two doors down has a birthday Jan 12 and always leaves hers up till after her birthday as part of the festivities.

How old are the children that will come to the party? Wondering if anything might get wrecked if it was up...if not, and keeping it up is your usual, I say go for it.

I took down the outdoor decorations on New Year's Eve because it was 54 degrees out here. Today I am taking all the indoor ones down. Our cats have gotten tired of the tree, chewing on it and knocking ornaments down, so it is time for it to go.

I will probably do it little by little this week.
I'm not in any hurry, and don't have any major decorations up (I kept it simple this year) so I can have everything put away quickly if I do a little each day.

The tree and outdoor decorations came down today...and the rest will be put away by the end of the week. I would take it down the week after Christmas but we have a family dinner here on New Year's Day and grandma likes to see the decorations up...so I wait until after New Year's...

We leave everything up until Jan. 7th--Russian Orthodox Christmas.
We exchange a few little gifts, but nothing compared to American Christmas!

We custumarily take everything down the weekend after New Years and keep the Nativity scene up until the Sunday the US Catholic Church celebrates the Epiphany.
So, everything went down today.
I put our stuff up on Black Friday so by now I am pretty Christmas'd out and ready to pack it all up, lol.

We leave ours up until Epiphany. So this year, it will be up until the 6th January....however, I would not consider you a slacker....:)

my son's Birthday is today (1/2) and we always make sure to have them down prior to that - it helps to signal that it's now HIS day
