Late lunch/early dinner on arrival day

or

for breakfast on the day we leave the World?

My DH loves breakfast food (and is a *very* picky eater....so breakfast is always a "play it safe" meal). I was thinking this breakfast on our last day before we head to the Universal parks would be a nice farewell to Disney.

On arrival day, I have us going to Epcot and just eating a QS meal. But now I'm wondering if it would be more magical for the kiddos if our first meal was at Chef Mickey's with the Fab 5!

What do you think?

I would say breakfast. We are not a huge fan of the Disney dinner buffets. We do, however, really like the breakfast buffets. We are also doing Chef Mickey as our final breakfast this trip on the day we depart.

With little kids, I suggest the first day. That way, when you are in the parks, your kids won't want to stand in the long lines to meet the Fab 5.

We have done it that way twice, and it is very fun. You are also still okay with lots of loudness and mediocre food. I do think their breakfast is better though!

Chef Mickeys breakfast is much better than their dinner. I would go there on you last day for breakfast.

I would definitely suggest Chef Mickey's on arrival day. We took our children there for our last meal at Disney, and we were all exhausted and had already had plenty of interaction with characters before that, so it was sort of a letdown. I think the kids would have been much more excited and gotten more out of it if we'd gone there on the first day.

We have scheduled Chef Mickey's breakfast for our last day as well. I think either way you can't lose, really, because doing it the first day sounds fun too! We haven't scheduled any character meals for our first day. Our trip will be a surprise to our kids, so I think just being there will be enough to have a magical day! Good luck with whatever you choose!

Breakfast definitely! Chef Mickey's dinner is really, really BAD. But, if you decide to go anyway, make sure your expectations are very very low, and you might be ok.

breakfast has now become a family tradition as the last thing we do before leaving. This trip we have an 11:15 AM ADR.

To those that said dinner is BAD, can you please elaborate on what is bad about it? Is it the selection/quality/something else? We are going there for DS6's 7th birthday. Thought it would be a fun way to kick start our vacation and to celebrate his big day. We can't do breakfast that day because we will be getting in very late the night before and don't want to rush, plus the hotel includes free breakfast. Thanks!

It could still be fun... It's just that... The food is just disgusting. It tastes terrible. Awful! Even the desserts... Everything looks better than it tastes. Just, lol... bad. I've never had worse, and that's saying something. As someone else said, go for the characters, keep your expectations very, very, very, very low and plan on having a big snack later :) It's the only character meal I wouldn't recommend. Still, for your son... he would probably not know any better :thumbsup2

Our tradition is to do the last breakfast seating on our first day there. It's usually around 11:20. We get to MK, get a FP for Splash, ride some rides, get a FP for big thunder before we leave (b/c the window opens) and then we monorail to Chef Mickey's. The place is almost empty b/c it is the last seating and it is so much fun.

We get a nice break, and then monorail back, grab another FP and then start using the ones we collected in the morning.

It's great to see the characters first thing and my boys love all things breakfast so we know they'll etc etc.

I suggest you don't. At all. Terrible, terrible food.

Cape May and Tusker House are way better for breakfast. Ohana is way better for breakfast. Crystal Palace is my favorite lunch/dinner. The buffet is fabulous, entrees and desserts both!

It used to be a tradition of ours to eat there arrival day but no more. Even when our second to alst visit there, our so got to open the restaurant and got all teh fun free-bees ad special treatment. that was pure magic. :goodvibes The food was still meh, but OK and the server we had was the BEST. But our last visit in 2006 was the end of that story. I can't see spending that $ for even the experience anymore. Not until they shape up and make the food semi-edible. We're not picky and don't mind buffet food, usually. But of the 2 you are choosing between, I'd go w/ breakfast. Breakfast staples are always there and usually decent enough. Fruit is fresh, eggs are usually OK as long as they are warm, cereal, hard as rock biscuits, waffles and juice, hey, it's breakfast. Don't do dinner if you can avoid it. There's nothing redeemable anymore. :(

I haven't tried their dinner but will next time. We tried breakfast twice before and just we're super excited, but decided to try it once more in Nov. and O.M.G.!!! SO GOOD! I want a plate of only those chocolate waffles!!!! VERY VERY good! :lovestruc

We've had breakfast at Chef Mickey's three times and dinner once. The dinner was terrible. Breakfast isn't the best but it's much better than dinner. Dinner items are low quality.

We are going for dinner on our arrival night. I love that we are going to see the Fab 5 right off the bat. The next morning we have an 8am ADR at Crystal Palace, so we will have met 9 characters before our WDW vacation really even starts! :cool1:

For me anyway, Chef Mickey's is about the character interaction. I am paying to have one on one time with the characters during one of the busiest times of the year. (spring break.) If the food is good then it is a bonus. Honestly, the boys will be too excited to eat, and I probably will be too!

I suggest breakfast!! We went on Christmas and we were not expecting much due to reviews and we still left really disappointed. My DH who will eat pretty much anything and say its ok said it was the worst meal we had at WDW. I love to have a character meal as our last meal at WDW though.

Crap. We're scheduled for dinner at Chef Mickey's the night we arrive. I hate that the food is so bad, but I don't think I have any other option. 4 kids age 7 and under will hear no different.

I don't think it's THAT bad, just not up to par with many of the other restaurants! When we first started going in '95, the food was AWESOME, it just seems like now it is mediocre and they can't (or won't) go overboard! But I think you can find something on the buffet you like, the choices just aren't as many as there used to be!

On the other hand, I think Chef Mickey's is great to 'get in the mood' for your upcoming trip, especially for the little ones! We went Oct '09 knowing that it wasn't the best again, but still had a great time with our 9 year old! It is really just about the characters!
