Debating whether to go ahead and purchase a resale or wait for Poly.

How long do you think it will be for Poly to open?

This is just a guess but I would think two three years from now . Avid they will likely go in sale 1 year before that

Just read on another thread late 2015 - if that's true then they should start selling them around this time next year.:laundy:

I'd say it matters more what you want to do with the points. If you think you're going to want to stay at the Poly all or the large majority of the time, you should wait and purchase there.

If you want to try different places throughout the system, and different locations beyond just Orlando, then buy an inexpensive resale option now- for less total points than you think you need. Then add-on a small contract at the Poly, to stay there with home resort priority every year for a couple days, or every third year for your full trip.

The latter is the option we went with, and we haven't regretted it. And if it turns out that the price and point charts for Poly are ridiculous, then we will likely buy another inexpensive resale and be content to get the Poly at seven months on rare off-season trips.

The Poly was our first Disney deluxe stay, and it's our favorite resort in WDW. But if DVC makes the math too terrible, then we will be content to stay elsewhere. Buying direct at recent prices is a whole different ball game than it was in years past, due to the very wide spread between the respective markets for most properties.

I would expect summer of 2015, of course there may be parts open before everything is finished.

Newbie jumping in here…I just purchased points at BLT :banana:…If I wanted to add on a small number of points at the Poly, how does that work as far as the time frame for booking? Can I book at 11 months and use a combo of my points, or could I only book as many days as I have points for?

Any given point's home resort stays the same no matter which resorts you own. If you own 100 at BLT and 50 at Poly, you can book BLT for 100 at eleven months out, and 50 for poly. You can only combine to book a single 150 point reservation at one resort at seven months, using current use year points.

The way some people work this is to bank and borrow, to use more than one year's worth of points at a given home resort to book a reservation at eleven months. In my above example, if one were to use BLT points from 2013, 2014, and 2015 on one reservation that falls inside the 2014 use year, then one could book a 300 point BLT reservation at eleven months out.

Be certain you understand the risks of cancellation inherent to this strategy before deciding to employ it, though.

Okay, thanks for the explanation. My head is spinning lately with all of the questions I have!

I think in my case, since I already own at a monorail resort, if I were going to add on, I would choose an Epcot resort..hopefully BCV. But that's a long way off!

This. :thumbsup2

If it's like VGF, they might do an intro price for current members. If that's the case, it may be worth it to buy a small resale contract now, and add on at the Poly later. That's assuming you know you'll want to stay there all the time and planning to buy a bigger contract there.

If it's like VGF, there are limited numbers of rooms. I have read lots of complaints from owners at VGF saying that they can't even get a reservation made because it's already booked up. I couldn't imagine paying that price per point and there being no availability, Then having to stay somewhere (SSR, OKW, AKV) that you could have purchased resale for $70 per point. I'm assuming Poly will be in the $150+ per point range.

I was unaware of any current booking issues with VGF. A few months ago, I was able to use my AKV points to book an August reservation at the 7-month mark. Moreover, I was able to secure a consecutive 6-night stay in a standard view studio.

Are the complaints in regard to booking a studio in December?

We just stayed booking at a 7 month window also. We are SSR owners. I was reading a thread were people were having issues booking now through December. Granted, that is in the 7 month range and it's free game to anyone. With only 100 rooms though, there are bound to be some booking issues.
