When do you give up on a waitlist?

According to various CMs I've talked with while on wait list, the closer you are to the date you want the higher your chance of someone canceling. People tend to cancel just before their trips due to unforeseen issues.

But call at least twice a day cause it will improve your chances to get something that has just opened up but not gone into the system as yet.

I have a studio at BWV for Oct 4-7 and I'm on the waitlist for BCV. Tomorrow I am cancelling the 7th. at BWV. I will be calling every day up to the 30 day mark to see if I get lucky. I have finalized my plans for our anniversary trip. We are driving. Two nites at HH in a 1 bedroom, 1 nite at POFQ, 3 nites at BWV and 2 or 3 nites in Key West. Looking forward to HH. Have never stayed there before. I have stayed at BCV and not at BWV, but I think I would prefer BC. We plan on relaxing and doing F and W. Maybe I will have some luck and my waitlist will come through

Course, it would probably be cheaper to fix the reservation system so people don't have to call twice a day.
