When do tickets activate?

Hi all! I’d like to buy myself a USO annual pass, though I don’t have a trip planned yet. I think I will likely go the end of this year. If I buy now, will the ticket stay good until I use it? If I buy now and go in December, will the pass be good for a year from that first day I enter the parks?

I know that’s true with Disney, but not sure of the Universal policy. TIA!
