Battery life is 2-3 years but the chip is almost forever. The batter is not needed for normal use. It only provides extras like auto ride picture selection (select attractions), and enhance standby queue interactions at select attractions.

Thanks for this info, I have found the majority including myself did not know there is a difference in battery life and actual magic band life. I have had people argue the battery life is only good for few years but I used the same magic band for 6 years before I finally bought a new one and my new one is 4 years old and still going strong. Mind you I only use my magic band to get in and for fastpass only, no extras. I never knew there was a difference between the battery and the actual band so thanks for sharing what I believe is real important information about magic bands.
