I've managed to injure my right leg to an unknown degree of severity. My doctor thinks that I may have a stress fracture, but the prescription is watchful waiting, elevation, rest and ice for a week. If I'm not back to 100% by then, they'll send me for an MRI for a more definitive diagnosis, and I've been told to expect to be made 100% non-weight-bearing if that happens.

In 3.5 weeks, I'm checking in to Pop. I may be on crutches/in a wheelchair. I may have a cast, or an air cast. I don't know. I don't anticipate needing a roll-in shower, but I might be significantly helped by a shower chair, or the adjustable shower-head. Alternately, I might have no restrictions at all by then.

I don't want to request accommodations that I don't need, but I do want to request assistance early enough to be practical. How far in advance do we need to have medical-related room requests in? If I wanted to ask for a room particularly close to parking or a close to the main building but non-preferred room location? If I needed a shower chair? Are there any requests that make particular sense when dealing with a rental scooter? I don't think that offsite scooter rentals tend to book up, so I should be ok nailing those down in the last few days....

Also, how early do I need to decide about a wheelchair for the airport/preboarding on Virgin America?

Thanks! I think I'm mostly having "I hate medical uncertainty" anxiety, but knowing how much time I have to sort things out might help.

I would do it as soon as you know that the week of rest isn't working. I would then just plan for the worst and hope for the best. You actually might want to go ahead and book the scooter now. Even if rest does work, you still may not be fully up to all the walking. If at 1 week before, you are doing fine, then just cancel it. I think most everything else would be ok at 1 week out.
