When do cancellations hit the computer?

If someone cancels an ADR is that space open immediately in the system? Or does the system update overnight and 7am is the best time to try?

I think they happen immediately. There are other postings here and I have seen posts that say "I will be cancelling CRT at 5:00 pm" and others that go ahead and call at that time and get it. So, it might be a coincidence, but I would try in the afternoon anyway. Most people are not going to get up at 7:00 am to cancel, they'll do it after work. So if it's immediate, it would be actually later in the day.

Does that make any sense?

I'm a believer in them hitting the computer immediately, because last week I scored two different great ADRs that other DISers cancelled - in both cases, I called at the appointed time, and the seatings showed up on the computer for the CM while we were talking.

When it was time to make ADRs for our Sept trip I couldn't get my D-I-L to make her mind up where she wanted to eat, but knew she wanted CRT, so tried two days that week for that. I didn't get it either time, so at 89 days out, I said just forget it and called about 7:30am (8:30am Floridian time) to make whatever ADRs I thought she might want. I was very lucky and was getting everything I was asking for, so on a whim when I got through, I asked the CM if she would check for any CRT availability for either breakfast or lunch for that week. She laughed and I said 'I know it's a long shot but would you please check'. In just a moment I heard her laughing and saying 'I don't believe it, but I can give you CRT for breakfast on your last day'. I told her I had called just the day before for that day and nothing was available. She said apparently someone had just called in and got the day they really wanted, so had cancelled the one they got the day before and it has "just" been put back in the system.
