When do 8 day Park Hoppers start

We will be stay in Dec. for 9 days and only have 8 day passes. Do the 8 days begin when we check in or do they begin when we enter a park for the first time. We are planning on not going to a park the first day due to arriving late and are hoping the 8 day passes begin the following day.

They begin on the day you enter your first park, not when you check in to your hotel.

It's not really a question of when do the 8 days start because the ticket isn't for a duration of 8 days. It's for 8 days in a theme park. You can use those 8 days anytime within 14 days of the first use. So for instance, if you were going to be in WDW for 2 weeks, but you only wanted to go to a park every other day, you'd only have to buy 7 day tickets because you'd only be going to a theme park on 7 different days.
