Do they shut the rides down earlier than 8pm? Do they run the rides during the fireworks show? Grrr...there goes my plan to ride BTMRR and Matterhorn during the fireworks, if they won't be running.

I assume Main Street shops stay open 'til 9pm?

Only rides in Fantsyland are closed down and the area is closed down to visitors...what day are you goin?...have you check if there will be fireworks the night you go?...I have rode on BTMRR during the fireworks once and it was fun...

I assume you are talking Xmas fireworks... The rides close at park closing. Unless you are already in line, then you wouldn't be able to ride BTMRR during fireworks at closing.

If the park closes at 8, chances are there are no fireworks.

Not true. They're running "Believe in Holiday Magic" fireworks daily for the entire Christmas season. Midweek (Mon-Thur) DLR hours are 10-8 for much of the season.

When we were there at the end of Sept, they had the Halloween fireworks running nightly even when the park closed at 8. I assume they still do. :confused3
Anyhow, when the show started at 8, the rides were still running (other than the FantasyLand area that is closed off) but I think that they shut the lines down at 8. Meaning, if you were IN LINE before 8 you were okay but if you arrived after 8, the rope was up & you could no longer enter the queue.
On one of those 8 pm closing nights we were in line for what we thought was going to be our last ride of the trip.....Ghost Galaxy. The Fast Pass line-up moved quicker than we thought & we were off it before the clock struck 8. :rotfl: We had a few minutes to ride just 1 more ride! Or so we thought...... We zipped over to Astro Orbitor & the rope was up. We didn't make it, it was just after 8. :( DD was very dissapointed. That was the last ride on her to-do list & it was our last night. Thank goodness there's always next time! :)

And it's possible park hours may be extended by an hour if it's very crowded, well actually now I'm not sure if crowds determine that ? I also went earlier in October, we arrived Wednesday evening and entered the park knowing it was scheduled to close at 9 pm, fireworks were scheduled for 8:40 pm, but while inside we learned that they had extended closing till 10 pm and to be honest it didn't seem crowded at all :confused3. That happened the following day too, changed from 10pm I believe until 11pm.

I saw the X-Mas fireworks last year, I'm guessing it's the same one this year, personally I didn't like it, but I'm not a big fan of X-Mas stuff.

Yeah....they extended the park hours one of the nights that we were there too. It was a nice suprize when they made the announcement (although the wall to wall people that day sure wasn't!! lol)! I heard from someone who "heard" from a cast member ;) that the reason that they did that was crowd level. :confused3 They did not do it the following night & the crowds were certainly lighter.

Not sure when you are going, but we go every year the first and second week of December. There are fireworks every night during the Christmas season, even if they are listed at the same time as park closing. However, Fantasy Land will be closed prior to the fireworks show. All other rides close at or right after the start of the fireworks show, in this case, at 8PM. Every time we have been they are pretty serious about rides closing at closing time. So maybe get in line for BTMRR at 5 minutes till 8??

have fun!!

Thanks all. Yeah, I was looking at some of the Nov. and Dec. dates when the park closes at 8 and the Fireworks are at 8. Looks like we'll be OK and can try to ride some of those fun ones in the dark during the fireworks. :goodvibes

If the Park closes at 8pm with 8pm fireworks...

The park rule is that if you are in line at the time of park closing, you can ride - no matter the length of the line. The line closes at closing time, not the attraction (if there is a line). If there is an hour wait, you will ride 1 hour after Disneyland closes. If it is a 2 minute wait, you will ride 2 minutes after closing. I suggest getting to your last attraction at 10 minutes prior to closing just in case your watch is different then the CM's watch. So, yes, you could ride during 8pm fireworks when the park closes at 8pm.

Yes, you are right, I've seen this - the line closes but not the ride itself until everyone left has gone on. I've seen cast members place trash bins at the entrance of some rides (Fantasyland) to close it off, or they'll block it themselves.

As far as the Main St. shops go, most of them remain open for 1 additional hour. We were there last Wednesday and the bakery closed about the same time as the park did (we wanted to pick up a hot chocolate and a cookie).

Another thing we did that was awesome was get in line for Space Mountain right before closing (at 9:00 PM). We got off the ride at 9:30 (after the park was closed) and just meandered our way to the exit. We even went over to the west side (Frontierland and Adventureland) and except for the occasional cast member, we had the park to ourselves. It's amazing how much detail you notice when you aren't surrounded by the hordes. I imagine eventually they would have chased us out, but it was a wonderful ending of our day.
