I think if your picture is on your annual pass then you don't need a hand stamp, but if you have a pass that doesn't have your picture you do need a hand stamp.
As mvf said, all the DL APs have pictures. And they cause a huge picture to pop up on the screen.
And yet, twice in my AP life I've been told to get a handstamp. Once in March on the last day of the Divas trip, as the parks got busier and busier, and once on Columbus Day weekend. They didn't want to take ANY chances with us not getting back in. On the March day, I was leaving entirely so I didn't get it. On the October day it was our FIRST day, FIRST park (DCA), and they told us to get a stamp on the way IN to the park...we got the stamps.
