When did your ds/d stop carrying a Disney backpack?

I'm right there with you, maybe we can fix him up with my DD. DD17 just got Ariel light up pens and is very excited about them. Disney stuff is very popular at her HS especially in light of the fact that the senior trip is to the world and all of the kids by the beginning of senior year start "loving " Disney. DD17 is a HUGE fan of all things Disney and wouldn't think twice about using her character clothes, jewelry etc.

DD14 is the same way and so is DD9. Last year in the parks DD then 8 and going into 3rd bought a black backpack with brightly colored mickey heads and peace signs and it was a huge hit at school. Kids and parents asked where she got it. She's planning on using it again this year for 4th and I wouldn't anticipate any problems with it. I use Disney tote bags all the time LOL!

I guess it just depends on the kids and the friends. I work in large public High School and Disney stuff is super popular.

Just my opinion but I think Mickey bags, especially those with Mickey Heads, are more timeless and classic Disney. My 7 year may not carry a Princess bag anymore but she'd have no problem with Mickey. He's forever!

It's so great to hear stories of the older kids who love Disney. :thumbsup2

My DD carried some kind of Disney backpack until 4th grade. She left behind princesses after preschool because the Disney fairies got so popular and she loved them for a couple of years. She had fairies in kindergarten, Hannah Montana in 2nd, Selena Gomez/Wizards of Waverly Plc in 3rd, but then went with a non-character (flowered) one for 4th. She picked out a trendy black, white, and green messenger style for 5th grade. Thankfully, she still loves Disney World and movies. She even asked if we could go to Disney on Ice to see Rapunzel and Merida this fall. :goodvibes

Kindergarten for my DD...we went through 3 that year. I didn't find the construction of them good at all. She used a rolling one first and the handle broke. The second one had a zipper break and the third one finally lasted till the end of the year. Last year (1st grade), I bought a Pottery Barn backpack and it lasted all year and could easily be used again this year. I explain all of that to say that it wasn't necessarily my DD's decision, but rather me not wanting to mess with the poor quality issues.

Pre-K after that the need for a sturdy bag was very important so we made teh switch to LL Bean. Disney Bags are not big enough to carry it all!

Be prepared, the Disney backpacks may reappear when you least expect it. My oldest DD15 has a Hello Kitty backpack. Amongst her friends there is a Cookie Monster, Elmo, Tinkerbell, P&F, and a Ni Hao Kailan (sp?). High schoolers are really loving their characters. You still have the scoffers, but not many.

lol..........not backpacks but my 6'1" 17 year old son......wore elmo and cookie monster tshirts last year to school i know its not disney ...but still cracked me up.................many Juniors did.........he has picture of them at school wearing them??????? go figure

Yesterday, while out school shopping my dd picked out a Minnie lunch box and backpack at the Disney store. Now mind you we went to the Children's Place, Target, and the mall but she wanted Minnie, and she will be starting 4th grade. I love that she still loves the characters.:cloud9:

That is just terrible. I'm sorry for your dd that that happened. Some kids are just so heartless and I know it's just because they're lacking something in their own lives, which just makes it that much more sad.

Thank you.

At our bus stop, character backpacks and lunchboxes are only carried by kindergarteners and first grades. When each of my daughters went into Kindergarten, each got a Lands End backpack that they kept until the end of third grade. Both backpacks are still intact and usable, my older daughter uses hers as a shoe bag to this day.

For fourth graders and up, Vera Bradley lunchboxes seem to be the order of the day. My seventh grader also uses a Vera Bradley bag as a bookbag, the fifth grader got a backpack from Pottery Barn Teen. Last year, she had a PB Teen messenger bag that did not hold up well.

I got tired of character backpacks falling apart before Christmas break w/ oldest dd so when oldest dd & youngest dd started 2nd & kindergarten I bought them Landsend backpacks. My youngest dd was made fun of on the bus in the 2nd grade for wearing a tye die princess jacket from WDW by a 5th grader. She avoided wearing it after that. I was upset that the bus driver did not intervene and the assistant principal "looked" into it.

Are you sure the bus driver even heard what was said? I also imagine the assistant principal has bigger issues to deal with. It's unfortunate your dd was made fun of but I doubt it will be the last time that happens. Kids make fun of each other and have since the beginning of time. Help your dd deal with it by learning to be confident in who she is & the choices she makes. It'll prepare her for middle school.

As for the original question, I think my dd was in kindergarten when she last used a character backpack but she had a dinosaur lunchbox in 2nd grade. She's going into 8th grade & picked out notebooks with puppies on them for this year. She's always had her own style.

My daughter is a JR and she wants a Tink one this year, however the last 4 years they had to be plain. Ahh teens haha

i struggled with this question last year (1st grade) for my ds. he wanted a mickey backpack and i was worried that he would get made fun of. we talked about it and he said that he didnt care.

so, here comes this year...he chooses cars. i am a firm believer in letting kids be kids for as long as possible, however, we discussed the "backpack dilema" and he said that cars is what he wanted. if he is happy, then so am i :thumbsup2
