When did your ds/d stop carrying a Disney backpack?

My dd stopped with Princess Backpacks after Kindergarten and after that she had to have Justice bags. Last year though she got her backpack for 4th in WDW and it was one of the Disney Nerds ones and I have to say it was the best backpack to date and held up really well. This year she is all about Vera Bradley so I got one for her on sale hopefully it will hold up.

My daughter is going into 1st and will use her Rapunzel backpack from K. She is still very "young" and has no clue what justice or under armour or any brands really are. I'll take it whileI can get it!

My DD6 is going in the 1st grade and I've been wondering the same thing about character backpacks. I don't want her to be made fun of. I asked some people I work with that have slightly older children and they all told me this would probably be her last year picking a Disney character backpack so I was prepared to feel a little upset that my baby is growing up. We went to Target and she had a lot of choices, she chose Hello Kitty, not too much of a difference. There seems to be Hello Kitty stuff everywhere, she has gotten very popular again.

My DD8 has a LL Bean backpack that she is stuck with, but as far as characters, this past year (2nd grade) was all about Monster High. Princesses were still OK in K and 1st, I think, and she's not against the princesses. If a 2nd grader had Dora, I think my DD would scoff, but she would not blink if a friend had princesses.

My 7 year old, 3rd grader picked a pink leopard print backpack and a Pink Hello Kitty lunch box. She will not carry anything Princess anymore and Tink is starting to go by the wayside. Not sure when Hello Kitty got so popular again but I've seen a lot of girls in her school carrying Hello Kitty.

This will probably be the last year though for any characters for her.

Now my son, He's totally Avengers this year. He's in Kindergarten so I think we'll be dealing with characters for a little while yet.

So I had to laugh with this thread when I read through. My DS was a junior last year and is now a rising senior. Now mind you, my DS is a very well rounded kid and is very sure of himself in a good way. He is very bright and a jock and would be considered in the popular crowd. Im just trying to paint this picture for you of him. So imagine my surprise last year when he started carrying a Disney sport sac as his backpack. He didn't do it for attention, he did it because the kid LOVES Disney! Mind you his friends are all carrying the "cool" bags and here is my DS with his Disney sac LMAO. I wonder when he heads off to college next year if he'll take it heeheee!

I'm right there with you, maybe we can fix him up with my DD. DD17 just got Ariel light up pens and is very excited about them. Disney stuff is very popular at her HS especially in light of the fact that the senior trip is to the world and all of the kids by the beginning of senior year start "loving " Disney. DD17 is a HUGE fan of all things Disney and wouldn't think twice about using her character clothes, jewelry etc.

DD14 is the same way and so is DD9. Last year in the parks DD then 8 and going into 3rd bought a black backpack with brightly colored mickey heads and peace signs and it was a huge hit at school. Kids and parents asked where she got it. She's planning on using it again this year for 4th and I wouldn't anticipate any problems with it. I use Disney tote bags all the time LOL!

I guess it just depends on the kids and the friends. I work in large public High School and Disney stuff is super popular.

That's to funny! DS is hoping to be heading to the University of Alabama next year and I can about bet his room will be decorated in UA football and Mickey stuff!! DS wears Disney t-shirts all the time and doesn't think anything of it. Very confident which I am glad. Our school heads to Orlando but they go to Universal Studios instead. They do head to DTD for dinner one night but that is the only Disney experience DS will bet that trip. Very jealous that your school goes to Disney!! :p

I'm loving all of these stories! I love keeping the Disney magic alive for my kids as long as possible so it's great to hear that a lot of your teens still love Disney.

:) I love that my DS can still have that Disney bug in him. My DW grew up going to Disney. I didn't because I came from a home where we just didn't have money to take vacations ever. Our DS appreciates that he does have the chance to do this stuff. Keeping that kid alive inside all of us is special. So here is to hoping that my DS continues to carry his Disney backpack!

My granddaughter is going into high school this year and has no problem with a Tink lunchbox. She would probably carry a Disney backpack, but in high school, there are just too many books to carry.

Be prepared, the Disney backpacks may reappear when you least expect it. My oldest DD15 has a Hello Kitty backpack. Amongst her friends there is a Cookie Monster, Elmo, Tinkerbell, P&F, and a Ni Hao Kailan (sp?). High schoolers are really loving their characters. You still have the scoffers, but not many.
DD's high school varsity swim team decided they were going with a Disney princess theme. They all carried princess backpacks, wore plastic tiaras, and brought Cinderella coloring books to meets for downtime. These were juniors and seniors in high school.

LOVE IT! I love to see the inner child come out! :)

2nd grade. The backptoacks were too small and fell apart too quickly. Now sh carries a messenger bag (she will be in 5th grade).

On the other hand DH carried a Marvin Martian lunchbox up until last year when I finally threw it away (it was falling apart). I know he is still grieving that loss :sad1 but it was time.

Love it! Sounds like me!

DD8 only had a princess back pack in Kindergarten... 1st grade was Hannah Montana.... 2nd Grade was just a fun Design... and shes starting 3rd grade and is going with a Messanger Bag that is Peace Signs and a fun Design.

She likes the Disney stuff but kinda hides it as she says her friends will make fun of her

Kindergarten - We went through 2 backpacks that year b/c they fell apart so quickly!! I had to put heavy duty tape on the bottom to get through the remainder of the year.

Since then I have bought Land's End or LL Bean for my kids and they last YEARS!!! And none of them have broken at all.

When we were packing to move, I found a pretty much brand new Princess lunchbox and backpack set that my mom had bough my dd, that we'd forgotten about. So I pulled it out this week, and asked if she would be interested in taking it to school. She politely told me no, that she wouldn't carry a princess backpack anymore :sad1: and that the lunchbox was too small. The lunchbox really WAS too small, so I was hoping she wouldn't notice it, but the girl is serious about her lunch.

DD7 (entering 2nd grade) chose a Brave backpack for this year. Last year she had Rapunzel & then Selena Gomez when the Rapunzel fell apart. I asked her several times if she was sure about Brave since I'm a little concerned that the others in her class may be "over" Disney, but then I let it go. If she wants it, that's enough for me. :) Like other posters, gonna give her Disney as long as she wants it. She's already growing up way too fast for me.

My daughter stopped after kindergarten! She is now 7 and going into 2nd grade and just told me that she was glad we went to Disney last year as she is no longer "into" princesses. My heart broke. Kids grow up too fast .....
