When did you start letting your dd.......

My DD started to shave about age 11.....

and boy were her legs hairy....i was embarassed....

i let her try the nair type stuff first cause i was concerned about her nicking herself.

When i noticed that wasn't working out. I showed her how to shave them to avoid cuts.

DD12 wanted to start shaving at 10. Her hair was not dark but she was sneaking and using my razor. I bought her the Nair type stuff (forgot the name brand) and told her she could only use that. It was such a pain to use she didn't do it but maybe once a month. Just in the past couple of months I bought her a couple of razors. She hasn't cut herself yet. :rolleyes1

I think it was my 12th birthday. My childhood best friend was a late-in-life baby (her sisters were 17 & 18 when she was born). Her mother didn't always take an active role in my friend's parenting. So as a result, my Mom took over doing a lot of that stuff. My friend, although a year younger than me, matured much faster. So when she needed a bra, my Mom took both of us bra shopping. So when my friend needed to start shaving, my Mom bought both us small Lady Remington electric razors. I got mine for a birthday present, which is close to Christmas, so it was a "Christmas" present for my friend (she got hers immediately after I opened mine). There are even pictures.

I made my DD shave under her arms when she was 9. I was embarassed for her.
For Christmas that year, Santa brought her an electric razor so Mommy wouldn't have to do it for her.

My Mom was the type that wanted me to wait until I was in HS. I had swimming class in 7th and 8th grade, so knee socks were not an option. I started sneaking her razor when I was 11. Nothing was ever mentioned again once I started doing it on my own.

My DD was 9 when she came to me and asked. She was totally embarrased by the hair on her lege (granted....she did have a lot), and said she would not wear shorts because of how she felt. I did not want her using a regular disposable razor, so I bought one of the razors that has the soap surrounding the blades (Schick Intuition). It was so much softer on her legs and the soap seemed to buffer the blades a bit. We did it together the first few times, and now (at 11 years old), she's an old pro and does it by herself in the shower. It was such a little thing and made her feel sooo much better about herself.

For DD.
She is just sooo hairy. Especially under her arms for all the tank tops. I will show her how to shave. She hit puberty already and now the hair is EXTREAMLY Long and Needs to be Shaved. Im just waiting a few more weeks untill she is wearing tank tops, shorts, etc..

i was 10 i think. i was quite hairy and it was black. i refused to wear shorts until she let me shave. i felt so much better after.

she still puts her foot down on the eyebrows, it's not as bad tho coz my eyeborws although they're dark aren't too thick at the moment. but i'm still trying to work on her you would not believe the crap you go through in school for it and saying oh well ignore them or don't be silly or i'll duff em up doesnt take the problem away

I was about 11 when I started shaving. My mom didn't want me to either, so I did it on my own, and got VERY scraped up!

My 12-year old DD started shaving last year. I also bought her the Intuition razor and thus far no cuts. I love that razor myself!

I was always really hairy as a child (and my hair was dark) and wanted to shave from the time I was 8 or 9 but my mom wouldn't let me. Her mom didn't let her start shaving until she was 14 so she felt that was good enough for me. It got really bad when I was 12 and I was being harrased by the boys in my class.

I got sick of asking her and getting no were so I went to my older cousin who was about 19 at the time and told her my problem. She explained it to my mother and my mom changed her mind and bought me a razor.

IMO this is not something that needs to have an age restriction, when my DD starts showing hair I will let her shave.

My niece is 10 and shaving. She is hairy and was embarrassed like your DD (she took after her Italian mom). My daughter is 8 and I've already decided when it's time for her (she is blonde though), that I will try the Veet stuff. I tried it myself and where it worked, it was fabulous and lasted longer. But it missed alot of places where I think my hair is just too tough from all the years of shaving.

I'll let my daughter shave as soon as she feels uncomfortable with her hairy legs. But actually I'll probably have them waxed instead of shaving.

Older DD was 9 when she started. We had started her out on Nair-like products but I finally broke down & bought her an electric razor, which has worked out great for her.

Now DD8 is starting to talk about it & chances are I'll probably let her start. Between the two, the younger one needs to do it more than the older one--she inheirited Daddy's dark, thick hair while the older one ended up with my light blonde hair. In the end, it's only hair. :)

My daughter was 10 as I was when I started shaving my legs She asked me. It's no big deal. It's not like she was asking about birth control.

im thinking i am going to let her shave but im afraid that she will cut herself.....i wonder if i should invest in one of those electric razors or just go right for the regular razor??? thanks for all the input..... vicki

The "intuition" razor is a great one for beginers, my DD used it for about 2 years. She just "graduated herself" up to a regular razor. The intuition sort of has a "shaving cream thingy" that gives a little lather to the leg.

The Intuition (by schick) is pretty expensive, but the reality is, they don't shave all that often, and the DAY AFTER my DIS friends mentioned this, I happened to notice them at my grocery store for 1/2 off. I snapped up every one I could fine at every location, and did rain checks too. We just ran out of refills (2 years later.)

I also agree with other posters...it is time to let them shave when the hair is embarressing them. If the girls have dark hair, it is far more noticable IMO than blond hair is.

My dd 10 started shaving her legs over last summer. She had come to me stating that her legs were to hairy. She now uses an electric razor. She is very light skinned w/ very dark hair on ger legs. So it is very noticable.

I honestly have no idea why parents wouldn't let their daughters shave their legs if they have the awareness to do so? Our brunette daughter is 9, she was bothered by her legs, so for Christmas in her stocking she got a razor, it's just fine.... course she wants to get her eyebrows waxed, but the hairdresser says to let them grow in a bit more.... DS who is 12 and fair complexioned just got his eyebrows waxed... I want them comfortable in their skin, I can't imagine causing such embarassment to one's child as to not let them shave when they seriously needed to? :confused3

I let her as soon as she wanted to, age 11. Tried to tell her she didn't need to and that it was a major PIA and that she'd have 60 years to shave her legs, why not wait a while...but she didn't care. She wanted to SHAVE.

So, now she does.

Wish she'd shave mine.

i never asked my Mom to shave even now I shave my legs about twice a year. I don't have any hair that grows on the thieghs and hardly any on the calfs and it is very light
