When did you send out your invitations?

Hey Everyone,

I was just curious as to how far in advance everyone sent out their wedding invitations. I can't seem to find what the rule is for destination weddings. We were thinking of sending them shortly after we have our Planning Session, which would be around 4 months before the wedding.

How long do you give guests to RSVP?

Our wedding date is 12/08/2009.
We sent the invitations on 9/09/09.
We requested they be returned by November 1st.

My daughter had a Wishes wedding at the Wedding Pavilion with the reception at the Grand Floridian. Disney needs to know at least 1 month in advance of how many guests to determine the amount of food that needs to be ordered. She sent out her invitations March 1st. for her May 31st wedding with an RSVP date of April l5th.

Our final numbers are due Feb 3. We sent them out this past Monday and asked for them back by Jan 15.

for my own opinion, i think that you should send your wedding invitations as soon as possible to avoid hassles. sometimes your chosen guests might have another schedule and by sending them an early invitation will somehow let them adjust their busy days.

Ettiquette says 6 weeks. Destination weddings are a little different. People need to make reservations and travel plans. I sent a save the date about 9 months ahead of time. This way, people would have it on the calendar. Then we sent the invites 8 weeks ahead of time. That was what my mom wanted. You don't want to send the invites with RSVP too far ahead. First people may intend to go, but when it comes closer things change. Secondly, if the RSVP date is too far off, people will forget about returning it, whether they plan on attending or not.

We sent them out them out mid-July and asked for a response by September 1st and our wedding was 10/12.
