When did this St. Patrick's Day custom change??

This morning, I heard no less than 3 different groups of people talking about the St. Paddy's Day "punch" for not wearing green... and how they'd knock a person out if they got hit.


When in the heck did the "pinch" go out of style???

As far as I knew it was still pinch. That said if anyone pinches me, they're getting punched.

I would have been pinched/punched most years...

It's a pinch here, never heard of a punch. Generally, just a kid thing here also. I have a green rubber bracelet on that my daughter gave me since I didn't have anything green to wear.

Never heard of either (grew up on Long Island in an Irish/Italian family). Oddly, I took MIL to the doctor today and the nurse pinched her for not wearing green. I thought the nurse had lost her freakin' mind (we are in NC)..

I am 100% Irish, O'Connor/O'Brien, and my relatives are all Sullivans as well as Sweeny's etc etc. I can honestly say I have never heard anything about pinches or punches for not wearing green on St. Paddy's Day …

I remember the pinch (no punch) from childhood. I also *might* have reminded my dd and ds about it this morning as I pointed to my dh.

Its PINCH, its a misprint.

I love this tradition, its the only day I can pinch all the ladies on the bum in the office and get away with it. (And even some that aren't in my office!!)
Just kidding.

I think the sexual harrasment laws have kind of outdated the pinch.
