To stay on property? Holy Cow! I'm starting to research a family trip for next year for 6 adults and 1 child. When DH and I go, we always rent DVC points, so I had no idea of how much room rates have increased. If I use current prices, it looks like we're going to pay about $2600 for 3 rooms at a value resort, but obviously that will increase by next April.
In contrast, a 5 bedroom house with a pool that is 3 miles from property is $1100. Even with renting 3 cars you come out ahead. I don't want to stay off property though, just for ease of convenience, especially travelling with a little one.
Were there any room only discounts for the last week in April for 2007?

you think that is expensive? I should have clarified, it's $1100 for a week.
thanks for the link; I thought one had existed like that.

hey I get condo - timeshares - skyauction & Rci - pay $199 to $279 for a 2-bedroom condo for a week.

with II - $300 to $700 for the week.

looking for someone - something in a couple of weeks - surprised at the prices $249 for a 2-bedroom suite per night!

this is surpose to be a slowing economy - so I guess Orlando is not expecting any problems.

in the 80's when CBR opened it was $59 a night, the Polyn was $125

prices just kept going up.

expect Disney to have another version - economy or something like that is a few years. but first they have to open the rest of Pop.

i still remember an old magic kingdom club card discount of $49/night at the all-stars in the mid/late 90s...

those were the days.

I really miss my Magic Kingdom Club Card ... we had some great (and less expensive!) trips with it!

boy didn't we - it was a great discount tool - and since not everyone knew about it - it was pretty wonderful!!!

or even the old annual pass discount or stockholder discount of 50%.

those days are gone....

. . . and probably never coming back. Unless the economy continues to go south, then it may be like it was during 2002!:thumbsup2

wow spiceycat, and I thought that 1100 for a week was a steal!
yes, I fondly remember the MKC discounts too. Or when an AP discount was worth having an AP (and I could 'justify' going 3 times a year! LOL)

driving to wdw when gasoline was 35 cents a gallon, too - but I was making 6800 per year to teach school also!!! :confused3

Well, we can all go to the "I remember when milk cost 25 cents a gallon" stuff but the truth is that everything has gotten more expensive. Everything.

On the way down to Disney World, we stay at a Days Inn just south of Valdosta. It's a nice place, we get a free breakfast (mini cinnamon rolls and muffins plus grab and go boxes of cereal), and they have a nice concrete non themed swimming pool. Rooms are decent and clean. Oh - we get a free USA Today that we pick up from the lobby. All in all a nice place in the road.

Price for one night? $70.

Would I pay twice as much more for a Disney moderate with a discount (come on - who on this board really pays rack rate at Disney?)? You are damn right I would.

When we first started going to Disney World eight years ago, this same hotel was $45. That's a 35% increase in eight years. And they haven't added a single thing.

If you are used to renting DVC points, why aren't you renting points for a 2 bdr villa. It will house everyone and can cost about $1500 for the week (I think OKW is the cheapest). It sleeps eight.

Ok you two, we are officially old. Wow I just remembered the club card. :rotfl:
If you think Disney is expensive. Take a look at spending a week at the beach in NJ. :scared1: Whenever we say we're staying close to home, the prices there send us running back to Disney.

I dont think thats too bad for 3 rooms... granted prices have gone up year to year... sounds like you might be doing better renting points again (as previous poster suggested)

Universal hotel prices are MUCH HIGHER... plus if you have a car to park at the hotel they charge $15 per night..(but they are closer to the theme parks)

I don't think Disney pricing is bad.... When you figure the cost of electricity, taxes, insurance, cost of doing all that laundry not to mention the payroll for the resort.... Just the insurance alone has got to be nuts....

Then there is the cost of park tickets...if you buy more days it gets cheaper and cheaper.. where can a family go for an entire day for entertainment for less money that also includes fireworks and parades? Iknow when we have company to keep everyone entertained for the day costs us more than that! :sad2:

Look at admission for 6 flags and look what you get for the money....

I am starting to wonder if we are going to see the effects of our bad economy next year. I personally think they are going to have to give some great discounts for next year. With gases prices the way they are it is only going to get worse. Right now people have already booked their trip a long time ago or some of them might be using their rebate checks to pay for their vacation. They are running bounceback thru December which helps. But what happens when the rebate money is gone and gas prices still are on the rise. I think some people are really going to feel the effects of our economy next year if they aren't already. I do realize that there are people who save for a vacation and might not be in a financial crunch. But between the gas prices, the grocery store prices, even restaurant prices, everything is on the rise. It is only going to put more people in more stress, making Walt Disney World unaffordable.

I just wanted to say that I agree with you....:sad2:

Have you thought about taking the plunge and buying DVC? It seems like this trip would be a perfect excuse for taking the plunge.

:teacher:

A 2 bedroom for 5 nights in dream season at okw is 30 pts/nt. or 150 pts. You could purchase 75 pts. and use 2 years points for your trip. If you can purchase 75 okw pts. for $75/pt. it would cost you about $6k with $300/yr. maintenance fees and you'd have 30+ years to go back to Disney.

If you waited to take your trip, you could bank and borrow, and get by with just 50 points. That would cost you about $3,750 and only be about $200/yr. in maintenance fees.

A 2 bdrm at OKW for 5 nights is only 110 points in adventure season, so you could get by with 40 or 60 pts. according to whether you went every 2 or 3 years.

I definitely agree with you about the NJ shore area prices. That is another reason why we are going to Disney a gain this year.

I can't see spending at least $2500 for a week at the beach...and this isn't beachview. Then having to have spending money and then money for games, tickets, etc. It definitely becomes very expensive.

We just take day trips down there.

Where in NJ do you live??

I've heard through the grapevine that Disney is not feeling the pinch of the poor economy because the US dollar is in such poor shape that international visitors can travel cheaper now thn they could 2 or 3 years ago.
