I think you are able to check-in online as soon as your reservation is confirmed.

We booked a reservation yesterday for YC arriving on April 19th and I completed our online check-in after I scheduled my FPs.

Right now I think it may mean either that you can get texted when your room is ready, and/or get texted and bypass the front desk entirely (get texted with room #, and magicbands will magically work when room is ready).

With the new skip the front desk the sooner you check in the better your chances for any request you make

We booked through a TA (my Aunt), and I was able to log in to MDE and check-in online, no problem.

If you haven't done so already, you need to link the room reservation to your MDE account. Once linked and you are 60 days or less from check-in, there will be a link to the on-line check-in process on the 'My Reservations & Tickets' page.
