When can I transfer Oct. 2009 points?

I thought I read in another thread that you cannot transfer points until you are within that use year. e.g., if I have an Oct. use year I cannot transfer points for Oct. 2009 until Oct. 2009 or later because it would be considered borrowing. So I can make reservations with my Oct. 2009 points but I cannot transfer them. Did I misunderstand that post?

Last June 2008, another member transferred her June 2009 use year points to me. We had made an agreement in November of 2007, but she had to wait until June of 2008 before she could transfer her 2009 points to me. I specifically wanted the 2009 points so that I could bank them into the 2010 use year.

I was able to have Feb 2009 points transferred into my account last week, so I think you should be able to go ahead with your transfer now.

FWIW, I called MS in December about this very issue. I saw that someone was advertising their 2009 points and I asked if I was able to get a transfer of 2009 points even though the points weren't available to actually be "used" yet. The MS rep said exactly what you said - "Yes, because the points are allowed to be booked so they can also be transferred before the UY actually starts." The only caveat she noted was that it had to be transferred into the same UY (i.e. no 2009 points into my 2008 UY).

I received a transfer of Apr 08 UY points back in Sept 07, as my one and only 2008 UY transfer. Because you cannot borrow transferred points, I could not use them for any reservation earlier than April 2008.

Thanks, all. I am hoping that I don't need to do this but DH, Mom and dog all have health issues and scheduling vacations is tough right now. Hopefully life will get simpler down the road.

I asked this question of contract compliance and the answer I got was that you could not transfer them until they are current, although they were going to research it and send me the findings since they could not find it in writing. In practical reality it seams that as long as you can book a reservation with them most of the time MS will let you transfer them. They also said that you couldn’t borrow them, although they also could not find that in writing. I have the contact number so I guess I need to call back and see why I did not receive a definitive response.
