I believe it is 6 months in advance. There are a couple places like the Castle that will require a credit card, they won't charge you unless you don't show up.
And believe me you do want to make advanced res! It is unlikely you will get in without them.
we just got back and had so much fun...but half the fun is planning!
We're staying in a pool home at Windsor Palms - traveling with our family of 5 plus my parents. It's our first family trip there - my kids and DH have never been there - and it's been 15 years or so since I have been there.
I have never stayed off property(I have only been 3 times ) I am sure it will be nice to have so much space. We have to get 2 rooms at a value, which we love because it is on property! And I know what you mean about the excitment! I turn into a big kid when I am there and when planning! I made a big count down with Mickey Heads on it.
Good luck and have fun!
Oh and IMO a couple of good places (and fun) to eat are:
Whispering Canyon Cafe
50's Prime Time Cafe
Chef Mickey's
O'Hannas (sorry I don't know how to sp it)
