I do actually feel like I get it--Thanks to you and the other thoughtful people here! (That chart you laid out by use year is great by the way, forgot to mention that, definitely simplified things)

not to throw a wrench in all this, but we bought in May with a June UY and MS told me I couldn't borrow my 2005 points until June 2004 started. Of course, the CM could have been misinformed.
A call to MS should definitely clear it up, though.

No they were correct. If you see what we all are saying, my use year is December. I cannot borrow any 2005 points until December 1, 2004. So your info is exactly the same, just a different month for use year.

Your misunderstanding might lie in WHEN I can get a ressie--although no points are available until 12/04 for me, I CAN make a ressie sooner, but not for anything prior to 12/1/04. In other words you don't have to have the points when you call, but you have to have them by the time you are making the ressie for.
