What is nomal procedure for suitcases when boarding...taking a seperate bag with me full of camera, etc.

We never have, but I suppose you could...

They are left in front of your stateroom throughout the day. If there is something THAT valuable, then perhaps you should.

The only time I unlock my suitcase is when I have to check it on a plane. Which is kind of stupid really since we keep any valuables in our carryon. Not sure why anyone would want to steal my underwear or clothing.

I always believed that if someone truly wants to get in your suitcase, they'll just steal the whole thing instead of bothering to go through it where everyone can see. I lock our suitcases when we fly, not because I am afraid that someone will steal something out of it, but to keep the zipper from opening.

I never leave anything valuable in our suitcases. It all goes in our carry on. If it doesn't fit in there, it doesn't go.

I assume you have TSA locks since otherwise it is illegal to lock suitcases on a plane these days.

We keep anything seriously valuable with us in the carry on...

But we also use zip-strips on the luggage from the airport to the ship room... easy to clip off, keeps the casual observer from 'looking'...

We always lock them on ships. The porters are not DCL employees, the bags can sit for a long period of time in an unsecure area where anyone can come and quickly go threw them. They quickly pile up in crew areas that are not behind locked doors. They sit outside stateroom doors at the beginning and end of the cruise. Of course I lock my suitcases.

DW and I always lock our suitcases on the ship. I keep cameras and other valuables in the carry-on, but I do have some stuff that while not extremely valuable, might entice someone.

Just like with the airports, you MUST use TSA locks on the ship as well, or they will be cut off if they decide to inspect them.:thumbsup2

My DH travels a lot for work and he is of the belief that if someone really wants to get into your suitcase, they will. We have been lucky, and never had anything stolen, but we do know people that have not only had items taken from their bags, but from sealed boxes, as well. (People can open and re-tape.)

Like others, we keep the valuables in our carry-ons, so they are with us at all times.

We do with the TSA locks. It's more that little extra step that will keep the opportunist away because of having more effort. The true thief will get whatever he really wants. Of couse, the valuable stuff is all in our carryons, too, so the thief would be pretty disappointed!:lmao:

TSA locks... haha... ALL theives have the key to open those up. Please.

Maybe just maybe a thief will skip by a locked bag, but my money is on them prefering to go into locked bags as appose to non locked bags.

I use TSA locks all the the time for the flight and cruise. Not because I am worried about something being stolen from my luggage but I always have visions of my luggage coming down the luggage carousel half open and with all of my clothes falling out.

We bought little zip ties at Bed Bath and Beyond. They can also be found on the Megelan website. I just put a second one inside the suit case (on top) with a small post-it-note asking them to re-tie it if they have to open the suitcase.

I have had one suit case that was randomly checked. TSA puts a flyer in the suitcase that says it was randomly checked and they re-zip tied the suitcase for me.

Last trip to WDW they didnt replace the lock. <grrrrrrrrrr> but like others said, Who want all the unmentionables. Camera, jewlery etc is ALWAYS in our carry ons. :rotfl:

There is NOTHING illegal about using any lock on your luggage. TSA locks are the only locks that the TSA officials have master keys too. Other locks can be cut off. TSA rules DO NOT APPLY to cruiselines. You are not required to use a TSA lock on a cruise.

I searched the Disney site, no mention of TSA locks for use on the ship.

In reality, luggage locks are a joke. Anyone can get them open. DW always puts a bread bag twist tie on, so at least she KNOWS is someone opened the luggage.
