We are planning our trip to Disney in October and were wondering when the holidays for the Florida school systems were in the fall? Just wondering mainly because that can sometimes make a difference with the crowds

Thanks for any help!!!!!! :goodvibes

Well, in Palm Beach County we don't usually get any holidays in October unless we're lucky enough to get devastated by a hurricane in which we get several unexpected days off without electricity, water, food, etc.

Not sure, but there are other states that have a fall break that is in October. We didn't realize it until our last few days of our trip from 9/28 - 10/03, when on 10/2 and even moreso 10/3 the parks were packed! We went from 0 minute waits on everything, to 90 minute waits for everything. Gave up on our last day and spent our last few hours at the resort. :guilty: I don't know when this fall break is this year, but you might ask about what states have it and when it is.

Our school system (in Alabama) has a fall break the week of Columbus Day. It is not a statewide break.

We were there a few years ago at the end of Sept. first of Oct. Things were wonderful until the Friday of the week. The state of Florida apparantly had the day off and they were all at WDW! :sad2: We rode 3 (yes, I said three) rides at MK that day!! The fast pass line for Buzz was longer than the wait line! One of the CMs filled me in on the school day off; also, it was the hottest day in Sept. that day. :rolleyes1 Now I always check the school calendar for Orange County before planning. Just do a google search and put in Orange County, Florida schools. Then look for the calendar!! Thank goodness for the internet!!!!

Hillsborough County (Tampa Bay area) has off:
Labor Day
Oct 6th and 13th (the Friday before Columbus Day, and the Friday after, but not Columbus Day itself).
Day before and after Thanksgiving.

So no major blocks of time off in the fall. Seems to me that my kids did get off for Columbus Day last year, but we were moving to the district, so maybe it just happened to fall on the last day of the first marking period.

We are in Pensacola and have the week of Oct. 16-20 off for fall break. Santa Rosa county is "next door" and their week off is Oct.2-6. Wish they were the same week but hardly ever are. This is our favorite time of year to go ! The weather is great, the MNSSHP is too much fun, and the F&W fest is also going on! We always need the whole week to do it all!

Broward County (south FL) usually has off for Columbus Day and if I remember correctly there's also a teacher planning day sometime during the month.

HOPEFULLY we won't have any hurricane days this year. Last year schools were closed in Broward for 2 weeks during the last week of Oct & first week of Nov. due to Wilma, and coincidentally...we were one of those refugee families who spent more than a week in WDW so we could live in electricity again. (we got one of the last rooms at the Dolphin)

WE pray this doesn't happen again but it's reality so just keep this in the back of your mind during your planning. October is going to pretty active for storms and Orlando is right in the middle of the state. WDW can be impacted one way or another if a storm threatens anywhere in FL (either by lots of people evacuating to Orlando or by a storm threatening the area).

I can tell you though around Halloween the crowds really thinned out for the rest of the week. Otherwise it's fairly busy in Oct. these days because of F&W.
