When are points considered borrowed? HELP!

I am intending to book 2Br @ SSR for Dec 07. At that point I will have only a few points left over from my 07 UY, therefore I will have to book them with our 08 points. However, it is possible that some friends may join us and in that case we may want to try to book OKW for the space, there would be 7 of us (DH, Me and kids in Studio part, DM in Lounge and Friends in the MB). Does this seem a lot at SSR?

My true question is this: If I book with SSR (points 227) and then want to cancel and book OKW (202) is it considered that I have "borrowed" 227 points and would therefore lose the extra 25?

I'm a little confused about this so some clarification would be great.

borrowed pts can not be put back into the yr you borrowed from. If you change form SSR to OKW and use less then you borrowed they would be put into a holding account. you need to use them before the end of that use yr and can only book within 60 days of trip.

Thanks. I think it would really me off to lose points, I'll be booking our flights early so need to be guaranteed a reservation plus I do really want to stay at our home resort, SSR. Our UY is Feb and our '08 trip is planned for March so we would definitely lose them.

If anyone has stayed at SSR 2br with 7 or 8 people, perhaps they could let me know how cramped it would be.

The holding acount only comes into play if you cancel a reservation 30 days or less prior to arrival. It doesn't sound like that will be the problem.

As long as the OP cancels the SSR reservation at least 31 days prior to arrival, the extra 25 points are returned to his/her account. The points are returned with the same status they had just before the reservation was made. So the borrowed points (originally from 2008 use year) would be returned with borrowed status. That means they would have to be used before the end of the 2007 use year or they would be lost. (There is no requirment to book only 60 days in advance if you cancel at least 31 days prior to arrival).

In that situation, I would ask MS to use up all the borrowed points to make the OKW reservation. That way, the "extra" 25 points would be current 2007 use year points. (Assumes the OP had at least 25 current points to use for the SSR reservation befroe borrowing) Subject to the banking rules, those current use year points could be banked.
