When is the cheapest posted rack rate?

And when is the least you will pay with a discount?

I understand these vary but in general - when is the cheapest time of year to stay at WDW?

You want any set of dates labeled 'Value.' For 2017, they are:

• Jan 2-4
• Jan 8-12
• Jan 16-Feb 15
• August 25-September 21

As for discounts- it depends on the type of discount and the level of resort you're interested in. Free dining ( usually offered in the fall) requires you to pay full rack rate for your room and the PH or Water Park add on. Depending on your family and the way you eat, this may be no bargain at all. Room discounts ( offered at various times of the year) increase with the resort level. So while a value resort may have a 10-15% discount, a mod may offer 20% or more, and a deluxe may offer 25-30% off. The more you spend, the more you save.

So, technically, the lowest prices with a discount, will be during one of the value seasons. Mousesavers.com has a list of Historical Discounts, showing the dates they were offered.

This is true for DVC resorts that are being booked on points but not for rooms booked directly with Disney. @_auroraborealis_ posted the correct "value" seasons for rack rates for Value Resorts. Moderate Resorts do not have "value season" in late Aug./mid-Sept. according to Mousesavers. And Deluxe Resorts have an additional season that is being called "value 2" that runs from July 7-Aug. 24 but it is not as inexpensive as "value season".
