Relying on the experiences of the DISers... How far in advance of your cruise do you find out if DCL upgraded you, and how do they inform you? We are on the 10/16 Wonder, which according to the responses I have gotten on this board must be darn near empty.
:rolleyes1 I am hoping for an upgrade from our Cat 11! :rolleyes1

From what I have gathered from other posts on this topic, you can find out as much as 3 months in advance, or not until you receive your documents. DCL will not say "We have upgraded you." Basically, you will see a new stateroom number on your reservation (still listed as the Cat you booked), and you can verify on the deck plans what category you are in.

Just a note of caution, don't get high hopes. While it does happen, there is no rhyme or reason to it (that the DISers can identify), and it is a rare occaision.

Totally random and can happen at almost any point in time.

Again, this is a RARE event so don't count on it. Also thread after thread analyzing who gets upgarded and when has revealed that there really is no pattern. Doesn't matter if you book early, book late, pay cash, pay on points, first time cruise, multiple repeat cruiser etc.

There are reports of people finding out about their upgrade at the desk as they are getting ready to board. So an upgrade is possible right up to the last second. Highly unlikely but it does happen

A DCL cruise sailing darn near empty :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: ...

no offense to the OP, but that is pretty funny.... On our cruise we had about 20 families/couples that were Dis'ers (well ones that would admit it), but I think Andy has a cruise next year with like 200+... :confused3

Some people find out when they call DCL to book an excursion. One in our group found out when she called to add REAS & the CM said they are in room xxxx, when they had booked room yyyy.

Wonder with the new online stuff DCL has added if it will show you your new room number if your upgraded???

I agree with all the previous replies. I just wanted to add that if you booked through a Travel Agent, they should notify you of an upgrade as well. We were upgraded on our first cruise about 2 months prior. I first noticed it on the website, then received a call the next day from DCL saying we had been upgraded.

We did not find out until we got to the terminal to check-in. Our docs that were mailed to us had our original room # on them. Caused our bags to be delivered to the wrong room when we got on board, lol.

We found out about our upgrade 8 days before we sailed, after we got our documents. Disney called our travel agent and told her to tell us to change the room number on our tags.
If there is system to the upgrades no one on these boards has figured it out.
We booked 11 months in advance, and were assigned a specific cabin then. We booked category 10, and were upgraded to category 6 with a verandah.
