Hi,

I have had a serious case of addonitis for months - infact it all started a few weeks after I made my original puchase, and shows no signs of letting up!!:lmao:

I am, quite frankly, driving myself mad looking at photos, point charts, Disboards (ok the last one would be happening without this 'outbreak'!!:goodvibes), and I just can't settle on where to have my add on!!!;) (as you see, it is now a case of where, not if!!):thumbsup2

Anyway, I wondered what you guys generally do?? - Do you add on at your current homes (giving you extra flexibility for bigger accomodation/longer stays at 11mths) or do you like to own a little at a few resorts,(just so that you can call a number of places home, and are happy with split stays if you can't get swaps at 7mths)???

My head is telling me to add on at my existing home of AKV (and I LOVE the many booking options/room types that this affords), but I keep getting drawn back to BCV and the lure of Stormalong Bay and the walk to Epcot/Boardwalk in the evenings.

So tell me - do you guys go with your heart or your head in these matters???!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

We had addon-itis the moment we bought in. We wanted points at Aulani and we bought today.

:cool1:

I'm done for now though. 160pts BLT, 165 Aulani.

Every other year at WDW, every other year in Hawaii.

First, there is no known cure, all you can do is feed the monster.

We started small at BWV and are adding small chucks of points at a time until we have the number of points we want at BWV. Then, our plans are to start adding at SSR for the lower MF's and the ability to book treehouses.

I am going through the same thing. It has calmed down a bit since I entered my 2010 UY (June so no more 2009 points) but we will see what happens when we visit in August.

If you are going to own more than 1 resort, you really need to be sure you own enough to book what you want at 11 months. We originally owned 50 VWL along with our 130 BLT.

But, as I was planning, I realized that I would have to book one night less since I couldn't combine the points until 7 months (and didn't want to borrow points). So, instead of booking my typical 6 nights, I only would be able to do 5 and hope that I could still get a room at 7 months. Since I was looking at SV at BLT, it didn't seem likely.

We sold the VWL and bought back at BLT and now that is all we own. When we do add on, we will keep our BLT points. This is our favorite resort but we were able to get BCV for 3 nights, studio, in late July/early August at 7 months so figure we are good. This is probably going to end up being our 2nd favorite. Since we had good luck, we don't see a reason to change what we own.

And, we will always do at least part of the trip at BLT, so the more we own there, the better!

I know it's a tough disease to fight. I've lost many fights, but now I just take a good long look at my last dues bill and I'm instantly cured.

Good luck in your decision.

I've got a fever!!!!! And the only remedy is MORE points!!!!! (and more cow-bell)

:lmao:

To the OP, after we first bought in, I had the urge to add-on but then I realized that we were good at least through 2012, and that I really didn't need any more points (as it stands now, we are in a bizarre situation in that we have too few points for a one bedroom but have plenty (almost too many) points if we stay in a studio). Since DD is only 6 and is our only child, a studio is fine for us for now. I would recommend really looking at your situation and planning out your vacations for the next several years. You may find that you don't really need the extra points (or you may find that you *really* do - LOL). But, as to your question as to what I would do if adding on, I think I would just add more points at my current resort, BLT just because of the low dues and the less(er) hassle.

Either way, good luck with your decision. :goodvibes

We bought more points at our home resort BLT because I wanted to be able to book the whole trip at 11 months and then I am happy to see what we can switch to at 7 months. I wouldn't want to move more than once in a trip so this suits us.

As you already have two homes I would add on to one of those first before getting a third IMO.

I've had add-onitis since shortly after our original purchase in 2008. I think I showed a remarkable amount of control waiting for Aulani. I was so tempted by VGC, but no I waited... and waited... and waited (seemed like forever). So finally yesterday I was able to give in to add-onitis and buy at the Aulani. That was the best phone call!! It's contagious now. I originally told our guide 250, but called her back today and made it 315. I think we're done now ;)

:rotfl2: Dang I am going to be thinkin about Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken ALL NIGHT!! Perfect representation of addonitis. Instead of hitting the cowbell....Ferrell will be running around my house saying "POINTS, POINTS, POINTS, POINTS, POINTS"!! I am still grinning....:upsidedow

When we do add on we will most likely choose another home resort. Not sure which one yet :confused3. We bought at VWL and really feel like that is "home". I would like home resort priority at another resort though.

It's a terrible disease - the desire to take more vacations.

We did a small addon earlier this year at the same resort, so that we could take 2, one-week vacations a year at SSR. Currently, we do studios since we have young children. Now that we have that solved, when I save up enough money, I will buy a contract at BLT, and probably another addon so that we could do 4 studio vacations a year, or 2 one bedroom stays per year - one at the resort and one close to the theme parks. I like the Epcot resorts so Boardwalk would be nice, but the BLT contract goes through 2060 (?) while BWV only goes through 2040. It is 20 years of vacations.

We bought 160 points at BLT last October, and when we were vacationing at SSR earlier this month we decided to add on 50 points there (mailing final paperwork back to DVC today!). I think this will settle us for a while - we can now comfortably take a week in a 1-bedroom at the time of year we want.

Maybe once DD gets a little older and won't want to put up with sharing a bed with DS any more we'll have to add a few more to be able to move up to 2-bedroom units! :lmao:

I'm thinking since you live overseas, it would be best to buy more at AKV.

BWV is fabulous though!!!

All of our non-OKW contracts are to have 11 month booking advantage at those resorts. We use our OKW points at OKW and a variety of DVC resorts where 11 month booking is not necessary.

We added on to all of our contracts, but one, when the point re-balancing left us short for how we use those contracts. The one contract we did not add on actually benefited from the re-balancing leaving us with a small surplus.

thanks so much for everyone's replies:thumbsup2 - I think the consensus for me seems to be to buy at my exist homes - especially as I already have two!!;)

I suspect we may well be inviting relatives along on future trips - so I am beginning to accept that owning a larger amount at one resort will be advantagious for 11 month bookings on the bigger accomodation - and those value 2 beds at AKV are so cheap points wise, that they are tough to beat imho!!:thumbsup2

Of course, I will still be trying for BCV/BWV at the 7month window :goodvibes- but I am hoping that we might get moderate success on occassions, as we will likely be travelling during late august, which I understand is a quieter time.

Again, many thanks for all of your responses :thumbsup2 and congratulations to those of you on your recent Aulani purchases - how exciting!!:yay::yay:

Nevermind...found a thread...
