I've got a guy coming out this morning to give me an estimate on an awning for our deck.

I'm hoping and praying it doesn't turn into a 2 hour sales pitch.

Give me the quote and GET OUT!

We had a guy come once to talk about waterproofing the basement. It was when the kids were small. We couldn't get him to leave. The pitch was awful. I kept saying I had to put the kids to bed and he wouldn't take the hint. I don't remember how we finally got him to go.

I used to do "house calls"
Want to get them out right away? Do not be polite, if you are nice they will try and sell you everything.

No beverages, no snacks, do not even offer them a seat.

Show them the job, and then act very hectic, or if you have a small child, hand them to the saleperson, and ask them to change a diaper while you switch the wash

They will leave

I don't particulary looked forward to it but alas, it IS a necessary evil.
Normally they get in and get out quick. If they don't then I know they don't have too much scheduled.

Except for the flooring measuring guys (sorry too early, official name escapes me). OMG! We are getting flooring for our WHOLE house, that took forever. They had to measure every nook and cranny. We had about 4 different people come out.

A good salesperson will tell you PRIOR to the appointment how long it will take. After all, if you are purchasing something major (household renovations for example), you want to make sure that the saleperson has EVERYTHING covered in writing and has explained EVERYTHING to you!

I feel your pain!!!

We've been having work done on our house. Had the house and our outbuildings sided. Asked the company to give us a price to put a roof on our deck...$15k!!!

We built a new house last year and had the life insurance guy over to get us a policy, b/c our loan didn't have any insurance built in. This was the 1st time we met him and he ended up staying for about 1 hour. That wasn't so bad, DH and I were enjoying taking to him and the kids weren't home yet, but it was getting old and we were getting hungry. Finally, he gets up to leave and he was admiring our refridgerator. For some reason, he opened the refridgerator door!!! I couldn't believe it!! I did have to laugh, b/c they of course asking you about drinking alcohol and we said we do "very rarely" or something like that. Well, we had a party a while back and in the fridge door, there is still a bunch of beer in the door! DH said if he comes back again in 6 months, most of it would still be there! Then he moves on toward the folding doors hiding the washer and dryer and I knew he was going for those next. Well- I had put the dirty laundy on the washer & dryer and I made a bolt for that door and stood in front of it until he left. He didn't need to be seeing all my dirty clothes! I don't know why he did that. I guess maybe he felt that comfortable in my house?? Strange!!
