Wheelchair rental

What places do you all recommend for wheelchair rental? I'd like to go as inexpensive as possible, and something good (size wise, comfort) for an average-sized 12 year old? He's about 110 lbs.

I usually borrow from the resort, but with DS getting bigger, those chairs can be hard to push (not in the best of condition!)

If you check out the disABILITIES FAQs thread near the top of this board, you will find links and phone numbers for a number of companies that DIS posters have had good experiences with.
If he can push himself some, you might want a lighter weight standard wheelchair (with 2 big tires in the back). I would not expect him to push himself all over the parks, but if he can do some, it gives a little more independence to him and a little break for you.

If he can't push himself, you might want to look at the wheelchairs with 4 small tires (those are usually caled "transport" or "companion" chairs). They are lighter weight, so many people find it easier to push them. Because they have smaller tires, they may not be as smooth or easy to push in rough ground.

There are also places listed that rent "Special Needs Strollers". Those are kind of like large sized umbrella stroller. That may not be an option for you because some of them only go up to 95-100 pounds; at 110, he may be over the weight limit.

Lisa, I've rented three times for my now 9 year old from Care Medical. I found their contact information in the thread Sue mentioned. They asked for my daughter's age/size and recommended the chair that would best fit. They have been very nice to work with and I haven't had any problems. I plan on using them when we go in November.
