We are planning on visiting the parks in Orlando in a couple of weeks. My sister is bringing my nephew down, who was born with spinal bifida and has autism as well. He has his own wheelchair that is sized for his 9-year old size. I've done some looking around at rental places to see if any business rents wheelchairs that are this size, but I am having trouble finding any. Does anybody know of any place that rents wheelchairs that are similar to the size and style of the model pictured?

They are driving down and if they can avoid packing the wheelchair, which does not fold down to a smaller size, they'd like to. Many thanks in advance for any info you might be able to provide!

They need to bring his own chair. They can take the wheels off and turn the chair upside down and put on car seat.. That way you can still stack things on top of it

We recently rented from Cloud of Goods in Anaheim, but they serve Orlando as well. We rented their pediatric wheelchair, but it was smaller than I really expected and we ended up trading for a small, light weight, but standard size chair (16" seat), which worked really well. Cloud of Goods was really easy to work with and actually brought both chairs for us to try out to get the best fit. The little girl who used it was approx 4'8'' and 75lbs. I will say a rented wheelchair is never as sturdy or comfortable as your own, if he's a full-time user, it might be tough trying to get by with a rented chair.

That's their plan right now. He is really comfortable in his own chair. My hope was that there would be the same or very similar model available to rent.

Thanks, I'll get in touch with this company and see if they have one that is very similar to or the same as his chair.

Orlando Medical Rentals offers the smallest rentals I've found -- I believe down to a 12" size. If they don't have what you need in a wheelchair, could he use a Convaid special needs stroller (which looks less stroller-ish for an older child)? Or they have several models of special needs strollers. They may have something to help with positioning, if that is a need as well.

Enjoy your vacation!

Oops, I should have checked back with my sister prior to posting this! She is borrowing a rooftop luggage rack and is going to put their luggage up there which will provide them extra room for the wheelchair in the vehicle! Thanks all for your help!!!! :-)

That's good he should always have his own chair with him. It's just an extension of who he is. I had 2 daighters with spina bifida (oldest died at 27 3 years ago) so I alwas have multiple chairs. Youngest plays wheelchair tennis now that's a chair that takes a lot of room.
