Wheelchair questions

My family and I will be going to Disney in less than 3 days and my grandma is going to be in a wheelchair to help her get around. I was curious, are the wheelchair entrances really different than the regular ones? For example, for the Haunted Mansion. Do you still get to see the Streching room or do you completly skip that and go to the Doom Buggies?

Some ride cues are the same & some are different. HM happens to have a different enterance, you skip the strectching room..

My parents used their EVCs up to the wheelchair entrance on HM and we went through a "servant's passage" and we came out just opposite of the main entrance and went into the stretching room with everyone else.

Perhaps it depends on how long a person is able to stand. The CMs always asked (particularly on HM) if my parents could stand and walk for 5 to 10 minutes.

My suggestion would be to ask the CM standing by the Wait/Fastpass entrance and they are able to tell you where the handicap entrance would be. Sometimes it is part of the Fastpass line, or it forks off of the Wait line, or you go in the exit like at IASM, or with Spaceship Earth is was an entrance at the side the building that I would not have even noticed.

My mother obtained a special card at Gust Services for additional services because she had a doctor's note explaining her broken toes and injured foot. On the card it had her name and our party number of 3. She would park her ECV (because she didn't want to try to navigate it through tighter line queue) and then show this card to the ride attendant CM and they would ask how many were present in her party and they would point us in the direction of the handicap entrance.

I know for the Haunted Mansion they took my mother in through an entrance that skipped the stretching room and took her directly to the doom buggies.

In Epcot at Spaceship Earth there was a back entrance with an elevator we took to a different boarding area.

For It's a Small World, you take a separate path that takes you down the exit so you board on the other side from regular riders.

Those are the ones that stand out in my memory.

Definitely check out the FAQs in the disabilities forum.

In general, you will go in all the regular lines. you can get a guidebook for guests with disabilities when you get to the park, which lists those rides with different entrances. A CM is usually stationed at the entrance, and will direct you when needed.

Spaceship Earth has a completely different entrance also. There is an entrance on each side. Look the handicapped plaque. Park the wheelchair and check in the a CM at the exit to the ride. Then when they're ready for you, they take you up the ramp to the back entrance. They can stop the ride if she has trouble getting on. A lot of the rides you go through the regular line and some have special entrances. Just ask the CM's. They will be glad to help you.
