I'm a new poster but long time lurker and Disney fan.

My DH is a recent amputee so this will be our first trip to Disney with him in a wheelchair. We are planning on renting an ECV for the parks. We want to get it there so I don't have to lift it in and out of a car trunk.

My question is: If he uses his wheelchair to get into the park, will they store his whc where we rent the EVC? If not, is there any other place that would store it safely for him?

Thanks

R u staying onsite? If so once u get to your resort call an ECV rental place and they will deliver it to your room within 20 min. Then u will charge it every night as you sleep. If u r going to rent one at the park there will be a storage place for u at the rental place to store your w/c. Have a great time.

Thanks honeydiane1953 for the quick reply.

We are not staying on site which is why we will probably rent on a daily basis. Its great to know that they will store the w/c at the rental place. that is what I was hoping for.

Just so you are aware, depending on time of year, Disney can run out early of ECVs (during the busiest times of year, we're talking within an hour or two of park opening). Disney ECVs are also more expensive than renting offsite. You can rent offsite ECVs that will break down enough to be relatively easy to load into a car (I know someone with MS who had the precurser to the Pride GoGo Scooter, for example, who used to be able to load it into a Dodge Neon by herself).

I'm not telling you to rent offsite, just letting you know some of the issues that can come up renting onsite.

But the basic answer to your question is; Yes, they will tag your personal wheelchair or walker and store it for you at ECV rental in the Park. And there is no cost.

If you do decide to rent an ECV from one of the off-site places, I would not count on having one delivered within 20 minutes. They are sometimes quite busy and can also run out if you are going at a high demand time.

So, either call ahead to reserve one before you arrive or take the phone numbers of several companies with you. There are a number of companies listed in the disABILITIES FAQs thread which is near the top of this board, or you can use the link in my signature to get there. All of the companies listed will deliver and pick up ECVs. If you call after you arrive, I would allow 24 hours after calling for the ECV to arrive. Chances are that it would be the same day as you call, but not likely in less than a couple of hours.
All of the off site rental places do rent ECVs that can be taken apart for transport. Many of them have information on their websites about taking the ECV apart, some including pictures. They usually also have listed the weight of the heiviest piece and some pieces may not be particularly heavy, but may be an akward size or shape.

As was already mentioned, they will store your mobility device for you at the park, but there is no guarantee they will have any ECVs to rent when you arrive. We have arrived at MK at 10:30 am and heard people unsuccessfully trying to rent one there.
Also, if you plan to park hop, you will be able to show your receipt and get another ECV in the next park without being charged again, as long as they have one to rent to you.
