Wheelchair question

I've been reading this board for days & I'm still confused:confused:
My DD fractured her foot and is in a soft cast. I'm considering getting her a wheelchair as she had foot pain after only a couple of hours at the mall. Is it possible to leave the wheelchair in the stroller section & pick it up again after the ride? Also if this gets to be too much for her to do, how do I find out where the auxilary entrances are located? TIA

Yes, you can leave the wheelchair outside. I would hesitate to do so. If lines are long in distance and/or time, she might get into trouble along the way.

Anyhow, if she does decide not to leave it behind, you'll find your way SO easily. Most of the lines are mainstream, so she can get in with chair and all. If not, there will be CM's there directing you where to go.

Just look at it as you go and use basic logical thinking. For instance; waiting for a show, I'ld have her use the chair and transfer to a seat/bench once you can enter. This way she wont use up one of the little wheelchair spots, you wont feel guilty about that but she also wont hurt herself waiting in line for a long time.

Also; she doesn't want to hurt herself being too enthousiastic. Let her be smart. Let's safe the walking she CAN do for stuff she'ld best want to do without wheelchair, like getting around the room, doing a bit of walking when eating at a buffet, that kinda stuff. As you've noticed, she only has so many 'miles' to go per day. Remember her of that if she wants to spill all on a line; does she really want to be faced with pain and/or using the chair at the evening dinner at a buffet? Does she really want to hurt when she wants to walk from pool to the slide? Or does she rather do the lines in a chair and do the walking for the 'nicer and more productive' stuff?

It's great if she can do all the lines, but if doubtfull or not it is wise not to let her blow all her energy/miles on the first line(s) of the day.

Excellent advice. Thank you. So will the CM have the wheelchair waiting at the exit when we are finished with the ride?

If you leave it at the stroller waiting area, then; no. You'll have to go get it yourself (yet some more walking). If she takes it with her in the line? Yes. t can take a moment if they're juggling more than one chair, but they wont leave you stranded. If you have any doubt whenever; stop and ask the first CM you get a glimps of. They'll be very willing to give you the info you're looking for.

If you haven't done so allready; the sticky on top of the DISability-board has great info to read. And at any guest relations (and check in desk etc.) you can get pamphlets (spelling?) pointing out all kinds of things you might need to know about doing a specific park with a wc, disability etc.

Almost all of the attractions at WDW are "mainstreamed", so a wheelchair can go all the way through the line to the boarding area in the regular line.

Those that do not (some at MK and Epcot) do have indications for alternate entrances or a Cast Member at the beginning of the line to direct you.

And you really don't want to just park the chair; some of the lines are much longer than they look from the outside.

Thanks again. If I'm reading the sticky correctly, I do not need a GAC right?
