Wheelchair Plus Das

Hello! My trip is in about a month and my son might need a wheelchair. He broke his leg a couple months ago and he’s out of the cast but walking is still pretty tough. So we are looking at wheelchair rentals. If he’s doing ok I can see parking the wheelchair with strollers (?) and letting him walk in small areas but for the big cross-park walks, he can’t.

My question is that he will also have DAS for his autism. Have done this before and are familiar with DAS and MDE. Totally separate issue from the wheelchair. Do we still use DAS and just bring him up in the wheelchair at our return time? Will this cause problems since I know DAS isn’t for wheelchairs specifically. It’s just he has autism/anxiety AND happens to need a chair for a broken leg…

I know someone who uses a das and has a mobility device that I've traveled with. You can take the mobility device through the lines that allow it (for a push wc that is most lines). The DAS works just like normal. The only difference could be something like BTMRR where the line can be hard to walk so he may want to stay in the WC and use the WC line which is up the side. I think getting a return time for this ride won't matter if he wants to avoid the queue and take the easier route.

I use an ECV in the parks and that's one ride (BTMRR) I would get a fast pass for back when that was a thing - forgetting that at times my knees were too bad to walk through the queue. Some LL return lines are very long as I'm sure you know (like Soarin). You could always take the push WC with you and he can walk but you have it in case he wants to sit. If nothing else, everyone can throw their bag into it but then you have it when needed. I usually park with strollers except rides like Peter Pan where there is ECV parking which I'm guessing you can leave a WC there - ask the CM.

I use a scooter as well as a DAS for a totally separate condition. Never had an issue using both.

My youngest daughter is a full time wheelchair user who can’t walk or stand.
She has DAS for other reasons.
Almost all lines are wheelchair accessible thru the regular line (Mainstream Line), which means there is not a separate wheelchair entrance .
All lines at Hollywood Studio and Animal Kingdom are Mainstream. At EPCOT, only Spaceship Earth is not Mainstream.

MK has the most lines that are not Mainstream, but most lines are. Jungle Cruise, Small World and Big Thunder Mountain give a wheelchair return time to come back and use the accessible entrance.
Jungle Cruise and Small world might be ones he would want to stay in the wheelchair for because they can be hard to transfer to.
Big Thunder line can be difficult to walk because parts are steep
