Wheelchair Availability

So I know that wheelchairs and ECV's are available at each park and Downtown Disney on a first come first serve basis. I have read that ECV's usually sell out by mid morning, can someone confirm or deny that for December?

We are taking my mom with us in December (5th-13th). She has a bad back and cannot do all the walking all day long, but she can walk for a while. So I am wanting to rent an ECV or wheelchair at each park each day. If ECVs arent available, a wheelchair will work fine. But does anyone know if wheelchairs sell out? I'd rather not get an off-site ECV or wheelchair cause we dont want to take it back to your room, just use them in the parks and be done with it.

We will be in the parks near opening most days I bet so it probably wont be a problem, but just for info, do wheelchairs ever sell out?

I was able to rent an ecv on emh night in Magic Kingdom on July 5th, and mid morning in Epcot on July 6th. Now that is of course the busiest time of year and I had no problem. I also planned to ask for an ecv and take a wheelchair if no ecv's were available. If they still had ecv's I am pretty sure there were plenty of wheelchairs. I was bummed about the cost and told my husband next trip I will just rent one for the length of stay from an offsite company for a fraction of the price, but like you I wasn't interested in lugging it back and forth to the resort.

Thanks. I think she will prefer an ECV though now she is saying she will want a wheelchair. But thats good news about July. Sounds like no problem. But we'll be happy either way, except if nothing is available which doesn't sound likely at all.

Unfortunately, the WCs they have for rent are not really very comfortable or easy to push. The ECVs are slow and difficult to drive. You are much better off renting from an outside source if you can. Also, you may find that it is needed at the huge resorts and airports!
