Both my parents used wheel chairs last week. The electric chairs at SeaWorld wwere wonderful. The electrics at WDW not so good by comparison. Both parents wished they had rented off site. We stayed at the BWV's. They stated they had many offsite places w/ phone #'s who would deliver right to the resort for free. I'm not sure exactly what the costs are but parents said it would have been cheaper then renting every day in the park. I'm sure the other hotels have the same #'s.
I know OKW has wheelchairs to rent for your length of stay. You have to put a $250 deposit down on them, but you get your deposit back when you return the chair. Maybe some of the other resorts are doing this too.
You can follow the link in my signature to the disABILITIES page if you like.
The WDW resorts do have wheelchairs, but from what I have heard from posters, they can't be reserved ahead of time and are first-come-first serve. you may find that what is available is an extra wide wheelchair when what you need is a small one, etc.
Here's a list of places DIS readers have reported renting wheelchairs or ecvs (also called scooters) from:

By the way, the electric things that can be rented at the parks or from the outside places are either ecs or scooters. Electric or power wheelchairs are different. If you ask for one of those, you will likely be told they only rent them to people who already use one at home. They are a little more difficult to drive and need to be individually set up for each person's needs.

We visit WDW in the offseason, but we have never had a problem getting a wheelchair at our resort, for free, without a deposit. As noted above, this is not guaranteed, but it's worked out for us. It saved us a few bucks and we had the chair for the parks and everything.
Tink, the other WDW resorts do have regualr manual wheelchairs (not ecvs) available. They may not have a wheelchair that fits you when you arrive (like they might just have an extra wide one).
You can call for more information from WDW RESORTS/SPECIAL RESERVATIONS

A few people have reported that they were able to reserve a wheelchair ahead of time by calling this number, other people have been told wheelchairs can't be reserved ahead of time.
What people in this thread are calling an electric wheelchair is actually called an ecv or scooter . Ecvs and electric (or power) wheelchairs are not the same thing. If you ask to rent an electric wheelchair, they won't necessarily know that what you mean is an ecv.
