Does Disney have wheel chairs available that you can rent by the day?

I was wondering if anyone knows the cost and do they do length of stay. I can't seem find the prices anyplace. Thanks Michelle

i believe they cost $10 and i think they do length of stay.

however, you do NOT get to take them from the park, even if you have length of stay. you MUST turn them in at each park and walk to the parking lot or buses. you cannot take them past the turnstiles out.

That is ok. I dont really need it outside of the parks, not sure if I will need it inside everyday either. I have a 10yr old son who has a hip promblem and sometimes to much walking causes him to limp and a lot of pain. He had the Mclaren but I think he has outgrown it since it looks like a stroller. So I thought we would rent a wheelchair as needed. thanks for the info. Michelle

ok, your son may hate the wheelchair just as much! those chairs are hideously uncomfortable for a fully-grown adult, much less a 10 yr old, and have NO support. in fact, i have had my hips (chronic dislocations) get WORSE sitting in them.

you can rent a pediatric wheelchair either at home (as airports are huge!) or in the area. you can just push it empty or filled with coats/souvenirs until he needs it. you can park it with strollers, too... you can also fold it up just like the stroller and carry it on the bus, so you dont have to use the lift...

in fact, his pediatrician may be able to get insurance to pay for a rental, or he may know of a loaners closet at a hospital nearby.

the footrests do NOT fold up and do NOT adjust on the rentals, and it is a mesh seat sling, which stetches around the rivets on the sides and causes "bumps" in the chair under your rear. it was terrible! it was way too big for me, and I am only 5 ft tall/100 lbs. i would look into other options, just in case

I agree with KPeveler. The rental wheelchairs are adult sized and have sling seats, which are not supportive. It's like sitting in a director's chair with a higher back.
If you look in post #2 of the disABILITIES FAQs thread, there are some companies listed that rent special needs strollers. One type of strollers is a Maclaren special needs stroller that is pretty much the same as the child version, but is made for olde children.

I have the Maclaren special needs stroller and didnt want to bring it because i dont want people passing comments about him in it. Last time we were there 2 years ago a cast member said something to him about being to big for a stroller I was embarrassed and didn't really know what to say, so now that he is older I really don't want people saying anything cause I dont want him to be embarrassed. There does not look like anything is wrong with him and most of the time he is fine. Just the constant walking caused him pain. I will look into the pediatric wheelchair. thanks Michelle
