Dan DS#1 16 (going on 2 on this day 1)
Nick DS#2 14

Prelude: Every year I say this is out last trip to WDW and every summer finds me planning another trip, its become a running joke with my kids, the last trip thing. This time on the day we left Nick asked me if this was our 4th or 5th last trip. Its the 5th.
The vacation becomes real to me the day I drop the dog at the kennel, I hate that part. Anyway, dropped the dog off about 8pm on Weds night, went home to an empty house since both boys were out and about. I cautioned them about an early to bed night since our flight leaves very early (7am). They both reply "dont worry. we'll be fine". Dan gets home at 11:30, Nick about 11. Suitcases are packed except for a few last minute items, like toothbrushes etc.
Everyone heads to bed by midnight, early by my nocturnal kids standards.

Departure day:
I am up at 5am after a pretty good nights sleep, surprisingly, I slept well. I wake up the sleeping beauties by singing the theme song of the Mickey Mouse Club, Small World and the theme from Tapestry of Nations. They get up, probably to stop my singing and we are ready to leave the house a little before 6am. We get to the gate at the airport with minutes to spare before we have to board, they are sitting together and I am a row in back of them. The flight is smooth, Dan sleeps, Nick and I read. we get to Pittsburg on time. On the walk to the gate for the next leg of the trip, we stop so I can get another coffee, and they can eat. That accomplished , its on the plane for part 2 of the flight. We are all sitting together, and we sit on the runway for about 45 minutes, Hot, boring. Dan sleeps as soon as we sit down and Nick and I chat. Dan sleeps thru takeoff, flight and landing and Nick sleeps for part of the flight. Even with the delay on the runway we land on time. Down the escalator to baggage pick up and we are greeted by Darcy from TTC,get the bags and we are on our way. Its hot and sunny and that first walk out the door of the airport in to the Florida heat is familar and wonderful. Darcy is great, chatty in a nice way, give s us some info about Dsiney, bookings, crowds etc. Just a nice guy. Get to the YC by about 12:45, a room is ready, but it doesnt have a daybed, so we tell them we will wait until a room with a day bed is ready. I personaaly dont believe that there wasnt one ready then- judging from the newspapers out in the am in front of the doors, there are MANY empty rooms in this hotel. I ask if we can leave the backback with the rest of our luggage, the front desk directs us to Bell services who tells us 'just take it outside to the storage room' (grouchy CM #1 of the trip). We go out side only to be ignored for a minute or two while the other bell men chat about something, I finally interrupt the conversation and get someone to take and tag the back pack.
Off to EPCOT, we agree to walk directly to Spaceship Earth, not stopping in any shops along the way so we can do our traditional first ride first. We do this and its as magical as ever. We then go on Imagination, Universe of Energy, get a snack, go to Cool Station (Beverly is even worse than we remember it) Body Wars. No waits. Its getting close to 5 and we have PS's at Boma at 6 so we head back to YC, not stopping in any shops again with the plan to do that after dinner. Our room is ready, room 2111, looks out on a grassy area, cant see the parking lot, have a tree with some pretty pinkish flowers right outside the balcony and pretty shrubs with darker pink flowers underneath. The roomis ncie, clean, no signs of wear. The day bed is proclaimed comfy by Nick. I call for a coffee maker and turndown service, we clean up, I change and off to Boma via MK. Timing is perfect, we catch both bussses within seconds of arriving at the bus stops.
AKL: We are knocked out by this hotel. Its is gorgeous, we say we would stay here (if it werent our last trip :) ) It is really beautiful and the CMs here are very friendly even to us just wandering around. We find Boma, wait a few minutes and our table is ready. The food here was wonderful. I eat alot, Nick eats alot and Dan eats a ton. The fish is delicous as are the salads and the desserts are fabulous. We would eat here again (if it werent our last trip). We finish eating and wander around, looking at the lobby and the viewing areas. We see alot of animals, check out the pool. It is a fabulous looking place. Off to EPCOT.
EPCOT: We get to EPCOT, walk thru to WS. Dan wants to walk one way so he can go to a couple countries on the way to Japan (there favorite country) I want to got directly to Japan, its 8:30 now, I changed from comfy shoes to dressier loafers for dinner and it was a BIG mistake. My feet hurt, particularly my heel spur. Dan starts getting mad and stomps off in the direction that he wants to go. I call to him, he ignores me and keep walking. Nick and I start following him, loose him in the crowd. We walk to Japan, I am fuming, I am thinking he is acting like a 2 yr old and it is making this unpleasant. There are tons of great viewing spots for Illuminations but I am not in the mood and want to find Dan, He isnt at Japan. We look around for a few minnutes and walk back to the hotel. Nick is worried about Dan, I am angry. We get ready for bed, Dan gets back and is mad that we lost him!!! I am so mad at him I can barely speak- he wants to go to the pool, I tell him NO and we go to bed. I cant sleep because my foot is truly hurting. I am thinking I must have a fracture or something it hurts so much. I finally get up at around midnight, take a Motrin and a Benadryl. I wonder if I should send Dan home if he is going to act like a 2 year old for the entire trip. He had a lot more freedom this summer and I am thinking its going to be be hard for us all to get into sync again. I am thinking that he really meant it when he said he didnt want to come with us this year. I am thinking this was a mistake to come. I am obviously over tired and miserable. I finally fall asleep.
Day 2 is better.

Glad to hear day 2 is better! But it seems other than the lost "child" incident, you're not off to too bad a start.

Is your dog a Wheaten Terrier? I'm guessing that from your name. I have one too! I love this breed. My dog is McDougal. We adopted him from breed rescue when he was 18 months old. He's now nearly 6 and I love Wheatens!

Also, we will be staying at the Yacht Club in October so I'm looking forward to reading the rest of your trip reports.

Meredith :D

We have a Wheaten, too - Bogey. He is nuts. We are going to DW for the FIRST time this October - 4 day land, 3 day sea. Never been on a cruise either. We have two boys - 9 and 11. What did you and your boys enjoy the most when they were that age?

Great Trip Report!

Ringboyz and Mermaidmom, yes, we have a Wheaten who is 6. He is still a puppy at heart though. I love the breed too and would love to be able to do the rescue thing once my life calms down some, whenever that might be!
When my boys were 9 and 11 they enjoyed almost everything, with WS probably being the least enjoyable for them then, now they love it. I think they were still into autographs, or at least the younger one was and they loved those pressed pennies. They were never big thrill ride fans so they didnt like the Mountains that much, esp the younger. They liked the character meals still too. Where are you staying? My kids loved the pools too, esp if there was a water slide of any type.

wheatenwalker: it's so weird to see other people who have this breed. I have one for about 6 months that I got from a breeder in Nebraska. She was so lovable, but untrainable. I tried everything to get her house broken and leash trained. But to no avail. I finally called the Wheaten rescue and they came and got her. They asked where I got her and I was told that place was a puppy farm, and my wheaten was probably inbred, and most likely would take an experienced trainer many hours to get her under control. I miss her, but my life is now so much easier. I may get another in a year or so, can you tell me a good breeder to buy from?

Anyway, it sounds like your trip is off to a great start. I have two girls (18 and 20). The last time we went (they were 17 and 19), they spent a lot of time together and without DH and me. It seemed to take the stress off. They could make their own schedules.

We leave in 15 days with no DDs, just DH and me. :pinkbounc I can't wait!!!

We just got upgraded to the Swan and Dolphin - looks nice because it's within walking distance of Epcot and close to MGM. My husband won't go on many rides so I will probably be taking the boys on most of them - or maybe they will just go together, although I'd like to go on a few, too. Did you like Tower of Terror?

ooooh! You poor thing, to have a hurt foot a Disney and on your first day is a bad way to start your vacation!!!

Love Japan too, not only is it beautiful but it has a great department store too!!!

Hope eveything goes better with the kids too! Off to read day two! ;)

Dropping the babies off at the kennel is always the worst part of any vacation our family takes. I try to make my DH take ours in so I don't have to see their sweet little eyes as they're led away.

Don't you just love teenagers? I'm already getting glimpses of what my DD will be like at age 16...and she's only 2 1/2!:D

Off to Day 2...

You may actually be getting glimpses of a future teen from your 2 year old- when Dan was about 2 the pediatrician told me I was going to have my hands full with him. At the time I was insulted but it has been true. Not always in a bad way but he has always been (to quote his preschool teacher) 'the bubbles in my champagne'. Thanks for reading!

I told my husband that someone on the Dis boards was wheatenwalker and I said, I bet they have a Wheaten Terrier...hey I was right! We have one too, Rosie, she's 4 1/2 and we rescued her from the pound. We always get compliments on her because she's soooo cute! Now I think possibly there was some bad breeding because she peeps a lot (like a bird). My toddler peeps when we ask him what dogs say, lol! She also is progressively getting more fearful of things such as laundry (odd). But she does love/protect our family, especially our son! Wait, is this about dogs, no Disney, my other favorite subject! Glad to see there's other Disney people with Wheatens out there!

They are great dogs but it seems like they all are pretty quirky- I know mine doesnt like some strange things, like the ironing board!
