What's your plan if it rains?

I love having a plan...but what if it rains? My current "to-do" list would have to change. So, what does your family do when the rain comes (and not the typical Fl afternoon rain...sunny, downpour for an hour and then sunny again)? This trip will include myself, 11 yr old son and my step Mom.

I don't change a thing. I watch everyone panic and run to their resorts. Rain is nature's Fastpass.

I'm not a "stay in the parks" person. Don't like being out in the rain. Someone is bound to say that "it only rains for 20 minutes" at a time in Orlando, but it isn't true. There is no special pixie-dusted weather bubble hovering over WDW. It can (and does) rain for hours or all day on occasion.

If it is a trip without a plan, we go to some offsite, indoor attraction...or the mall...or we just hang out at the hotel.

If we're on a planned trip, there will always be a back-up plan of what we'll do (some offsite attraction) and there will be a "make-up" time (or two) scheduled later in the trip where we can make up the stuff we missed. There is also a "Plan B" for the make-up times, in case we missed nothing due to rain. :)

I try to avoid the rainy season, too.

Ha! I love this!

If it rains on our upcoming trip we will probably still hit the parks - unless it is also super cold.

DisneyQuest would be good for an 11yo, but if it's raining a lot of other people will think the same thing.

Ditto. Unless it's practically a hurricane and ten million gallons of water are soaking us to our skin, we're usually just going stay at the parks and enjoy our time.

agreed. Besides thats what them water proof ponco thingys were made for ;)

last time we went we were at hollywood studios and all of a sudden the heavens fell and everyone ran for it, just wear appriopriate shoes and have a poncho on hand and you'll be fine.

Though if it looks like it'll rain all day, just plan a trip to the park with most attractions under cover - maybe epcot?

If we're at MK, we usually hit a monorail resort, grab a warm beverage, and sit in the beautiful lobby. It's fun to just people-watch and relax. When we were at AK, we went to AKL and did the same. We've only been to WDW in the winter so when it rains, it's fairly chilly. When we're done relaxing, we weigh our options and either go back to the park or return to our room until the rain stops. Last trip was particularly rainy, so we bought ponchos and went to the parks, regardless. It was fun because nobody was there. We were drowned rats, but got on every ride multiple times!:rotfl:

I just pull out the rain ponchos or umberellas.

I am normally a big hater of rain. Our last trip is very particularly rainy...we bought ponchos and continued to enjoy the parks! I try very hard to let nothing get in the way of my magical vacation. :wizard:

Some of my best days have been in a nearly empty park in torrential downpours! Have poncho will travel!
I especially like AK in the rain. The park clears out and it feels like being in asia during the monsoons!

Head to Future World. The pavillions there (aside from the rides) have literally hours worth of stuff to do inside nice dry buildings. So often the "hand's on" exhibits, tours and demonstrations get overlooked in the quest to run from ride to ride. But a rainy day provides the perfect excuse to stop and smell the roses inside the pavillions. Many people argue against Epcot in the rain because the park is so big. This is true if your objective is to run from Soarin' to Mission space to Test Track to Living Seas on a commando mission. But if you spend decent chunks of time inside each pavillion, odds are the clouds will break in time for you to head over to another one, if not a ride. I promise that a rainy day in Epcot will have you discovering a lot of things that you never knew existed.

Thats a good one brah!! :lmao:

And I agree, I don't change a thing! DW & DD's use a poncho or umbrella.

We always go in June so storms are usually short in duration and then you dry off quick afterwards. I just think ponchos are stifling. I went during a tropical storm one year and it rained all day every day. But who cares, just duck in and out of attractions and stores and don't worry about the rain.

Perfect! We also just keep on going. The only time it didn't work was this past Dec, when it was also very cold. We were miserable out in that in about 10 minutes. Thankfully it passed after an hour or two.

During a bad downpour on monday, we covered most of Fantasyland including sitting for Mickeys Philharmagic in under an hour!

However, we then had to give up- because we were flying home and were soakde to the bone, we needed time to dry off. Had we realized how early the rains were starting, we would have put dry clothes in the carry on. My bad! These rains were pretty hard though- the lobby of WL was packed with people not willing to brave it.

But normally, we just get out the rain gear and keep going.

On Monday there were literally torrential downpours all morning at the MK and I was able to continuously ride Space Mountain with no waits! Beware that Tomorrowland became a virtual lake during these rains while the rest of the park seemed to drain much better. I don't know if this was just a problem on Monday or if this area of the park normally doesn't drain as well as others, but it's something to watch out for.
