When you're traveling light in the parks, what's your favorite all around lens? I'm thinking of our next trip and I don't want to lug a big bag around and have to keep up with it all and chase my 3 kids :) do you go with a prime? Telephoto?

I shoot with a Nikon d5200.

My favorite walk around lens, and what's on my camera most of the time, is a 24-105 f/4. I tend to stash a prime in my bag or pocket for dark rides and such.

In the past, it has been my Sigma 28-70 f2.8. I recently picked up a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 to replace the DW's kit lens and I steal it and have had some success with it on a non-Disney vacation (I like 2.8 lenses for the lowlight capabilities). I also shoot a crop sensor camera so the 17mm gives me wider options that I didn't have with the 28 (although the 28-70 is still a favorite of mine). I bought it as a cheaper option to the 24-70 f2.8 right after it was discontinued. I have been pleasantly surprised by its optics. It has been a very good lens.

Looks like the 17-50 is pretty popular! I was considering the 50mm/1.8 but maybe i should look into the Tamron...

I used my 50mm f/1.8 on my last trip and I LOVED it! It was a little tight in a couple shots, but it was fast and quite sharp. I know a lot of people prefer the wide angle, but for me 50mm was fine.

Couple examples:

I like the look of those! I hate my flash and refuse to use it unless absolutely necessary so low light capability is a must for me.

My canon 24-70 2.8 II

Before that for 3 or 4 years it was the canon 17-55 2.8 and I loved that. Gorcthe new canon to ease the cost of going full frame soon.

But today at the flower show I used my Tokina 11-17 2.8 and had a really good time. No idea what came out or not cause it was so bright over there and busy but we will see.

My baby is the Canon 17-55 f/2.8. She's just back from a rather pricey spa trip to the Canon factory, but she's dust free and ready for a few more years of loyal service. :)

Since I switched to full frame in June of last year I have only used 2 lenses (just over 4,000 shutter clicks), Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 and Nikon 70-200 f/2.8.

We are going to Disney in June this year and those are the 2 I'll have along with occasionally using the Nikon 50 f/1.8 and Sigma 10-20mm (though not all that much since it is as DX lens). I'll bring the 1.4x teleconverter to use with the 70-200 when needed.

When I was shooting a DX body, my go to lens was the Sigma 17-50 f/2.8.

Thinking I need to start saving for the 17-50mm. I like to have different lenses but I really want something that will do most anything as to keep from changing lenses when I don't have the most ideal surroundings to do so. Plus, I've already got a 50mm/1.8 but its just an old lens that won't auto focus.

With my T4i, it was mainly the Canon 18-135, for its zoom versatilitly. But the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 is creeping into that walkaround spot. From the way I usually like to shoot, that aperture versatility is great!! Plus, when I'm with my family, my shooting priorities are different. So I'd rather have that 1.8 than zoom.

My Canon 24-70 2.8 is pretty much my all purpose lens, not the lightest lens to carry all day in the parks though.

I`m seriously considering the Sigma 18-35 before my next trip. Is it all they say it is?
