So is it next to impossible to book HH 7 months out for June?

Would like to know if it can be done.

Thanks--

Dean

We booked the first week of June at the 6 month mark this year. Wanted a 1 bedroom , none available. Took a studio.

Yesterday, we booked a 1 bedroom for the first week of September. Was told there was no vacancies from June until September 1. Not even on for cash!

This will be our first trip to HH. I've never had 2 vacations in one year. We had points that had to be used. Love my DVC!!!!!

The high season for HH should be mid June to later August. There will be increased usage for early June, Easter and Christmas. President's week and several other isolated events will also have higher occupancy. I'd say if you want mid June to late August at HH you need to buy DVC at HH or consider another HH timeshare. There might be an occasional 2 BR (mostly 2 BR units there) for summer if you call right at the 7 month window and day by day, otherwise you won't get in. If you don't want summer, I'd consider buying at OKW, WLV or BW and using the points for HH when needed. You can always try to work out a direct exchange with another DVC (HH) member or another timeshare owner. Exchanges through II are also unlikely using DVC especially if you want a Marriott. Good luck.

More and more schools are opening for the fall in early August

-- so late August may find some vacancies if your school system starts late Aug or in Sept.

Thanks for the replies...doesn't sound too promising for the summer.

Anybody have any ideas as to what the weather is like in February at HH?

Dean,

Last November (2000), I was able to book a 2 bedroom at Hilton Head arriveing Sunday June 17, 2001 for 5 days departing on Friday June 21, 2001 useing the 7 month window. I did not book day by day either. I waited until the day after my departure date to book this.

Dumbo, I'm glad it worked out for you. First you wanted a 2 BR (most units at HH are 2 BR) the other is that with active selling, there will always be more units declared than owned. The thread was on buying to use and the answer I gave was a generalization regarding expectations for future reservations.

If you want to go somewhere high demand with any frequency, you should always buy there. Now there are always stretegies to try to have your cake and eat it too. At HH, it's buy a lower Marriott during the summer then do a search first and try to upgrade to a better resort. Another ploy is to buy an off season Marriott and try to get summer at any Marriott resort.

One buys HH DVC because they don't want to own other timeshares, likes to go there to visit most years, wants to stay various times of the year, may use a different size unit some visits or for stays other than 5-7 days. It's also a good option for those that want into the DVC for the occasional options of WDW/VB. IF HH for a week in a 1, 2 or 3 BR for summer is the main goal, there are probably better timeshares choices on HH than DVC for most families.

Dean,

Thanks for your input. I enjoy reading your posts here and also "elsewhere". As for my future timeshare plans I have already communicated with resale sally concerning a greenie, but am sort of leaning towards the loewveld lodge thing.

Actually my message in this thread was in response to the original poster who's name is also "Dean". He asked for input concerning booking HH in June. I replied with my experience doing so. My family will be at Disney's Hilton Head Resort from June 17 thru June 21, 2001. I'm sure during those 5 days I'll find time to explore the "other" resort properties while I am there.

I like Sally, she is knowledgeable and straightforward. I bought a Harbour Pointe Week 35 from her. Tell her I said hi.
