I know that many of us use music to help us train and motivate. But do you have one particular song that is your "anthem"? The one song that motivates you, speaks to to you, makes you feel empowered?

For me its "Right Now" by VanHalen (I am showing my age:cool2:). The music has a nice beat and the lyrics make me realize that running in the half marathons are my "Right Now" and that I can do anything I set my mind to.

So tell us, what is your anthem? (Panda I expect to hear from you on this one!)

Hi Veronica!

Always a nice thread to see others songs and get ideas for our ipods :thumbsup2

My favorite is Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield. I LOVE Going the Distance from the Hercules movie and strangely didn't know about it till someone did a thread like this but although it's on my ipod I've actually passed it up because I get all choked up listening to is LOL

Looking forward to reading about new wonderful songs to add to the list :flower3:

I have two.

One is so steryotypical and slightly embarassing, but "Eye of the Tiger". I know, I know. It's even worse since I'm from South Jersey and a Phillies fan. Oy. It just makes me laugh and gives me a boost and has a good tempo.

The other is "Pig" by Dave Matthews Band. It isn't a fast beat or anything, it is the lyrics. It always makes me just happy to be alive and breathing, and gives me an extra mental boost to keep going.

I have a marathon training mix that I periodically update.

Two current favorites:

Kryptonite by Three Doors Down

Sarajevo by Trans Siberian Orchestra

I've been away from the WISH boards for too long, but I had to come out of hibernation for this thread...

I recently discovered how powerful and motivating of a song "Lose Yourself" from Eminem is when you're running!

"Feet don't fail me now!"

Thanks for the question! I love my running music, and it's hard to pick just one song. One song that really gets me going is "Under the Bridge" by the Chili Peppers - actually, I love almost anything from the Chili Peppers when I'm running.

A current favorite is "Don't Stop Believing" from Glee, the new show on Fox. This has come on my i-pod more than once when I am trying to make it up a tough hill, and it has really helped a lot.

As crazy as it sounds my latest inspirational song is Hamster Dance:rolleyes1-- DD5 loves it and always dances and bops around to the song. She was with me when I was putting together a running mix and asked me to put the song in so I could think of her. Hamster Dance happened to come on my ipod just as I was getting into Magic Kingdom during the Princess 1/2 and in another race as I was just nearing the finish. The song is silly and has a fast beat and makes me think my little one is cheering for me:cheer2: Now when I hear it I think of running through the castle :cloud9:

I have so many songs that I love to listen to it's difficult to narrow it down to just one.

I guess the one that always makes me run MUCH faster is the theme to "The ultimate Fighter".

I'll post up my running playlist later...I keep the I-pod on shuffle so I never know whats coming up.

I use alot of the same songs listed to pump me up so to speak but when I am feeling a little like cutting a walk short I scroll my ipod for "Live like you where dying" by Tim McGraw. Might be a little weird but it works for me.

Kim

Although I try to pick faster beat songs for my marathon playlist, I also pick my songs based on the lyrics.

Two of my favorites are, like Kim, Tim McGraw's :Live Like You Were Dying" and "I Wanna Do It All" by Terri Clark.

Terri

"If You're Going Thru Hell" by Rodney Atkins :thumbsup2

Perfect lyrics for being out on the course! I've been known to belt out a couple of lines when the going get tough. ;)

When I ran with an mp3 player, my playlist rotated through several thousand songs. (And those were the ones that made the cut - IIRC, my computer has something like 6k songs and/or podcasts on it right now.)

But I've always had a soft spot for the "Superman" theme, and 'On my Way" (from Brother Bear) is another one that gets me wanting to gear up and get out the door.

I love this thread. I'm always looking for some good songs.

My current favorites are:

It's My Life by Bon Jovi
and
Desire by U2

Both just inspire me and keep me going.

Am I the only one who doesn't use an iPod while I'm doing training runs?

On rare occasion, if I'm doing a night-time long run, I'll listen to a podcast (or several), but even that is unusual for me.

Anyone else out there who doesn't listen to music?

No, no, I don't either. Guess I should have said it just plays in my head. ;)

Great question! "Hey Mama" by the Black Eyed Peas always gets me going.
