What's wrong with my cell?

I got my new Samsung C417 yesterday. Did the activation, etc. All was well. Took a picture of my cat, set it as wallpaper. Added a couple phone numbers. Life was good.

This evening I went to make a call (first one I've tried to make) and the buttons won't work. When I open it, the phone comes on, but none of the buttons will do anything. When it turns back off, the "stop" button (or whatever you want to call it, with the picture of the red phone on it) will make it come back on, but nothing else does anything.

Any ideas?

No, I didn't password protect it. I tried to see if it needed a password, but it's not prompting me for it or anything.

Cingular tech support is closed for the night. So I can't call them until tomorrow. I was hoping someone here might have an idea.

I would take the phone back and exchange it for a new one as this one sounds defective.

I put off upgrading my phone for a long time. I don't like change! I finally did it because I had an old Nokia and the battery wasn't lasting very long anymore.

Now my new phone doesn't work!

Ugh.

That means I won't have a phone until Thursday since I ordered it online and have to deal with them for the exchange. And of course, it won't get sent out until tomorrow - well....I need to call them first...and they are closed!

Perhaps its keyguarded?

Try pressing the top left button then the * key quickly. See if that helps. Or call your cell from your land line to check it...

Nope, not keyguarded. If it were, it would prompt me when I first flip it open for a password.

The phone itself works, the keypad doesn't. I can (and have!) received calls on it since the keypad stopped working. I just can't make any because I can't dial!
