I started walking on the tredmill (started 2 weeks ago today) after 1 whole year of not exersicing at all and a 10lb gain. I have lost NOTHING!!!! I thought I had lost 1lb after the first week, then I gained back 2, then lost 1 again, so I was back to where I was before. I had cut my calories to 1200-1500, and still lost nothing. I don't get it? I've been walking the tredmill for 90 minutes, and the last 2 days have brought it up to 2 hours. I'm also lifting 5lb weights a couple days a week, and lifting ankle weights 2.5lb on each leg. I thought I was loosing as my shorts were feeling not so tight. I really want to give up. It this normal in the begining not to loose anything????? I am sure I had to be eating at least 2000 calories a day if not more the last year. I'm 4' 11". Any advice would be nice. I have been keeping a jounal on the jounal page.

Short answer - nothing! I went through the same feelings you did when I first started working out after being pregnant and I also lost nothing for a couple of weeks even though my clothes felt better. Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat so you may very well replacing fat pounds for muscle pounds which is why your shorts feel better even though the scale hasn't moved. Just keep up the good work and eventually the scale will start moving down. The best part for you is that muscle keeps your metabolism reved up so even when you're not working out you're still burning more calories than if you had never started an exercise program. Don't get discouraged - you're doing great!

If your pants aren't as snug you're absolutely doing something right! And by lifting weights you're gaining muscle...nothing wrong with that! It takes a while to see results, don't give up!

Thanks CrzyforPiglet and mandibc11 for the encouagement. I don't want to give up. I keep hoping I am gaining muscle. I know I feel like I have more energy to do things and I also have been having a harder time sleeping in, almost like my body wants me to get up and move. Before it was never like that.

I think I'm going to stay off the scale. I am going to put that thing away, I was feeling fine about myself untill I stepped on it thinking I would see the numbers going down. It was really messing with my head. I will keep doing what I'm doing, just no scale for me. :)

Instead of getting on the scale, why don't you take your measurements? Those weeks that you aren't seeing the scale move you are still doing something right! You may be in for a pleasent surprise with the inches that you are loosing!
