Seriously? :confused3

This woman is a nut bag! Her little tiff with Mrs. Edwards last night just put her over the top on my list! Did somone drop this gal on her head when she was a kid?

Wow, what a class act. In the past she makes jokes about the Edward's dead son, and now wishes John Edwards dead. And Matthews, what a joke. He just lets her go on and on... They should both lose their forums.
Dear MSNBC....

I think it's a bit hypocritical for Elizabeth Edwards to ask Ann Coulter (or anyone, for that matter), to lay off negative attacks on her husband, who wants, after all, to be the most powerful man in the world.

Wasn't it John Edwards himself who campaigned last time about 2 Americas--I can't imagine a more divisive campaign theme supposition.

Huh? You are comparing talking about the fact of ever increasing economic inequality to using anti-gay slurs, making jokes about a dead child, and hoping for a terrorist attack? :confused3

There's no comparison: what Edward's did was much worse. For example:

1) Are you seriously saying that using the word "***" is all that big a deal? Have you ever called someone a homophobe? I don't see much difference.

2) I haven't heard the joke about the dead child, so I can't comment on that one.

3) Hoping for a terrorist attack? Ann Coulter? If you're referring to her quip about the NY Times, I think it's much ado about nothing. It's just Ann's flamboyant way of saying she disagrees with the NY Times. No big deal, IMO.

PS Income inequality is a sign of economic growth. I'm all for both. So long as those as the bottom are improving, why give in to envy and be spiteful that other are improving even more?

Oh yeah they're exactly the same. :sad2:

So you've apparently just come to the gay board to make trouble I see.

Actually, no, not trying to cause trouble, though I've been accused of that before. While it's true that I disagree with most of what I see posted in here, does that mean I shouldn't voice my opinion? Just trying to present the other side in a thought-provoking way. But if that's not what this forum is really all about...if it's really all about agreeing with all the pro-homosexual posts, just let me know, and I'll stop posting. I just thought people might like to hear the other side.

If you disagree with most why are you here? Just curious. I do not go to the family board and tell them how wrong they are by the way they raise their children (for example).

And in order to provide the other side I feel that first you must make yourself aware of all of the facts. You (by your own post) do not even know what comments were made about their deceased son.

Sorry but I think smartestnumber5 was just calling a spade a spade.:confused3

There's "presenting the other side" and there's engaging in discourse. If you simply post "I like her and she didn't do anything wrong" ... that's presenting the other side, but not engaging in discourse (as you yourself admitted that you weren't familiar with her encounter with Mrs. Edwards, i.e. the topic of the post).

Here's Wikipedia's account of what happened:

Coulter drew criticism for statements she made at the 2007 Conservative Political Action Conference, where she used the term "f----t" in reference to presidential candidate John Edwards in an allusion to Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's use of the word and his subsequent counseling:

I was going to have a few comments on the other Democratic presidential candidate, John Edwards, but it turns out that you have to go into rehab if you use the word 'f----t,' so I'm - so, kind of at an impasse, can't really talk about Edwards, so I think I'll just conclude here and take your questions."

The audience responded in laughter but Edwards responded on his website by characterizing Coulter's words as "un-American and indefensible" and asking readers to help him "raise $100,000 in 'Coulter Cash' this week to keep this campaign charging ahead and fight back against the politics of bigotry." Coulter's words also drew the condemnation from many prominent Republicans and Democrats alike, as well as groups such as the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD). Coulter responded in an e-mail to the New York Times: "C’mon, it was a joke. I would never insult gays by suggesting that they are like John Edwards. That would be mean." She also posted a response on her website: "I'm so ashamed, I can't stop laughing!"

On March 5, 2007, Coulter appeared on Hannity and Colmes and said that her use of the word "******" was a "taunt" and further expounded that [the word] "****** isn't offensive to gays; it has nothing to do with gays." In regards to the criticisms from her own party, Coulter responded with "Apparently our top three Republican nominees aren't that smart. And by the way, if they're going to start apologizing for everything I say, they better keep that statement handy cause there's going to be a lot more in the next year."

In response to this issue, three advertisers (Verizon, Sallie Mae, and Netbank) pulled their advertisements from Coulter's website, and eight newspapers dropped Coulter's column, including The Times in Louisiana, The Oakland Press in Michigan, The Mountain Press of Sevierville, Tennessee, and the New Era in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Responding to the controversy, Coulter has said:

Just for the record, I've never attempted to revise, or extend, nor have I apologized and the attempts to silence me have made me even more money…Those newspapers pay me about 25 cents per month, but I picked up a LOT of speeches…Attempts to censor me have really backfired.

In a June 25, 2007 appearance on the ABC show Good Morning America, in reference to the homophobic slur Coulter said that she had “learned my lesson” and that "If I'm gonna say anything about John Edwards in the future, I'll just wish he had been killed in a terrorist assassination plot."

In a next-day appearance on MSNBC’s ‘Hardball’ with Chris Matthews, Coulter received a phone call from Elizabeth Edwards, John Edwards’ wife, asking her to stop the personal attacks and to stick to discussing the issues. Coulter responded by claiming that the Edwards campaign was “raising money off it” and denying the previous day’s slur. Mrs. Edwards also brought Coulter to task for writing that they had a bumper sticker on their car saying “Ask me about my dead son” in reference to the death of their son Wade. Coulter dodged the question by mischaracterizing Edwards' call as an attempt to silence her, by attacking Sen. Edwards for being a trial lawyer, and by refusing to desist from further personal attacks.

What a gal, eh?

Seriously... Coulter's speciality is in what are known as "Ad hominem" attacks (where someone's position is criticized not by logically attacking their position but by attacking their character or physical traits). For example:

"I’ve never seen people enjoying their husbands’ deaths so much." -Coulter on the widows of 9/11 victims

"The only place Al Gore conserves energy these days is on the treadmill. I don't want to suggest that Al's getting big, but the last time I saw him on TV I thought, 'That reminds me — we have to do something about saving the polar bears.'" - Coulter on former VP Al Gore

"Six imams removed from a US Airways flight from Minneapolis to Phoenix are calling on Muslims to boycott the airline. If only we could get Muslims to boycott all airlines, we could dispense with airport security altogether. " - Coulter on Airport Security

"[Learning difficulties are a cover for] rich parents with dumb kids...That's why 'Pinch' Sulzberger, the publisher of The New York Times, is alleged to have dyslexia - because he's retarded." - Coulter on Learning Disabilities

"You don't want the Republicans in power, does that mean you want a dictatorship, gay boy?" - Coulter in response to a student's question: "You don't want the Democrats in power, so does that mean you want a dictatorship?"

The most baffling thing about Ann Coulter, to me, is that some semi-intelligent people actually seem to like and respect her.

Yep, I agree. She was and is out of line.

Mark, do you really think your comments can do anything other than offend? You are clearly welcome here, and more than allowed to have your own opinion. All we ask, or at least I ask, is that you keep yourself informed of the depth of the issues to this community. These are not simple matters that can be dismissed as "simple name calling." Unless you've experienced hatred directed at you, solely because you breathe and walk on this earth, then you need to open yourself to understanding the viewpoint of those who have (and continue to have) that experience.

Perhaps, with some research and attempt at understanding what it means to be a lesbian or gay in today's society, you will come to the realization that no one deserves to be discriminated against regardless of who they are. No one.

To answer the question, I think she was deprived of attention as a child and is trying to get it now in anyway she can.

Great answer. I think I need to use that in some of the CB threads that pop up lol.

Been surfing the news outlets tonight.

CNN is a Paris Marathon!

MSNBC covered this story for about 30 minutes.

FOX was pretty silent! (Ya fair and balanced my rear!)

Ann is supposed to be on some morning show starting at 6:00am, can't remember which one, that should be interesting. I'll be sure to set the alarm clock for that one! ( I hate to admit it, but for some odd reason I love watching Ann Coulter on TV. Kinda like watching a plane crash!:lmao: )

Ann Coulter rarely has much of a point to make other than "all liberals are stupid dumb-dumbs" There are folks on both sides who really don't engage in dialog but tend to just do a lot of name calling etc. A few years back I could actually listen to Ann as she occasionally had something to say. Lately though she seems to constantly try to top herself by saying something more outrageous than she did last week. Her appearances are pretty pointless as she doesn't have much to say.

Now she is not the only one, and it is not just on the conservative side. I have felt that many appearances by Al Franken amounted to little more than "all conservatives are stupid dumb-dumbs" as well.

These so called news discussion programs should at least bring folks on who can make a coherent point.

I agree...I don't think it matters what side you sit on, there are people name calling back and forth constantly. This isn't the first time a personal attack has gone into the spotlight in the media, and as long as their are folks that will tune in to listen to it....politics will stay that way. Especially before an election year. This is not going to be the last personal attack, it will come from both sides to each other.

She was just on MSNBC boo hooing and crying about people putting words in her mouth! :confused3

I didn't see anyone with a crow bar forcing the F bomb to come out as she stood on that stage a few months ago.

Once again I say this woman is a whack job! I'm glad to see the Edwards campaign is taking the high road so far. :thumbsup2

I love crazy people. They make my life interesting!!

She's not helping the Republican party one bit though, especially with her quote about how "Everyone is just waiting for this Nincompoop to be out of office"

Isn't there a quote from a movie about crazy people? Something about "Up north they hide their crazy relatives, here in the south we're proud of them, we put them on the front porch!" :rotfl2:
