I noticed Cumin is the most widley used spice in Universal... every meal had a hint of Cumin in it.. I hate Curry and it smells the same to me....

What's the deal? Does Universal have a cumin orchard in the backlots?

Just my thoughts....

Don't remember any cumin in my food at Universal? Care to elaborate?

I don't recall that either..and we have tried almost all the restaurants at Universal/IOA and City Walk.

Motherfletcher,
You really crack me up! Too funny.:Pinkbounc

Even though I've never even heard of this spice...

You'd be surprised what they've got back there. It's probably next to the cornfield. :p

Try the Home Fried Potatoes for breakfast at Trattoria Del Porto in the Portofino, or the french fries at Mythos, or the Captain's Fish Fry platter at Lombard's... I got a whiff of teh stuff in all these dishes... it smells like CURRY, and I HATE curry !

It's probably just the latest 'trendy' ingredient. A couple of years back, every menu at WDW featured wasabi.

F-L-A - cumin is the vital ingredient in a chilli (apart from chillies, of course :p) which makes it taste like a chilli. Leave it out and it just won't be a chilli. Although it often features in curries, it isn't essential to a curry in the same way as it is in chilli.

I took second place at the Armadillo Olympics Chili Cookoff in Weslaco, Texas without using cumin. Maybe they just don't know good chili in Texas?:hyper:

I have to chime in now with another question...what is curry?

I always thought it was a spice, but this summer we went to Ireland and when I ordered a "battered burger and chips (fries)" they asked do you want that with peas or curry? I said, "curry" just to try something different, and it was like a brown gravy poured over the chips. It was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. So is curry always like that?

The "curry" you had totally differs from the curry mentioned. The spice "curry" is made up of several different spices, is yellowish in color and is widely used in many middle eastern dishes. According to the tin of curry powder in my cupboard, the ingredients are: Coriander, Turmeric, chillies, salt, cumin, fennel, black pepper, garlic, ginger, fenugreek, cinnamon, cloves, anise and mustard.
