What's with men and gas gauges?

My dad actually ran out of gas years ago backing out of the driveway to go to work. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

IAny why can't women, or at least my wife, operate a gas pump. The last 2 attempts from my wife included an accidental drive off, as she thought she swiped the CC at the pump but it did not take, and the other was a tank full of premium when she should have bought unleaded.

Hey, she could be worse. Thank your lucky stars she isn't like my sister, who drove all the way home with the gas nozzle, hose and all, still attached to her car!

Hey. If you want to get to Florida more quickly, you have to cut out those unnecessary gasoline stops. Running the tank nearly dry saves time.

I do have a funny story about running out of gas. At least it seems funny now. When DW Sue and I were dating, we decided to drive up to Binghamton NY to visit my sister and her husband. We decided to take Sue's Ford Escort. She had filled the tank and I asked her "How far can your car go on a tank of gas?" I should have known I was in trouble when all I got was a blank stare. So we headed for Binghamton. On a very cold spring day as I recall.

As we got within about 30 minutes of my sister's house, I noticed that the gas gauge seemed VERY low. Wouldn't you know that we were on a stretch of road with no open gas stations. I asked again the question about how far Sue had gone on this tank of gas. She said "About 300 miles". Turns out she was off by about 100 miles. Did you know that a 1981 Ford Escort can go about 400 miles on a tank of gas? And that you run out of gas in the middle of nowhere.

I ended up scaling a fence on the 4 lane highway to get to a frontage road. I walked about 1/4 mile until I found a tavern. I call my sister from a payphone and she and her husband hopped in their car and brought us a couple gallons of fuel. All's well that ends well, but Sue was convinced that I was going to break our engagement and call off the wedding. All because I didn't want to stop for gas.

We just celebrated our 20th anniversary this past August and neither our marriage nor our cars have run out of gas.

It's the opposite here. I never fill before the needle is nearly on E and the light is on whereas DH freaks out if I let it get below half. He used to be like me and fill on E but ever since 911 he seems paranoid that we'll have to go somewhere in a hurry and won't have gas.
