What's with Delta in Oct from Boston?

They've downsized some of the planes and at this point they only have first class available? This is only March for goodness sakes! I realize they are reconfiguring their fleet, but really now. They're not going to get anyone flying them at that rate, they'll just drive everyone away to another airline!

I have seen some of those flights running around $1027!!! I booked mine for late Oct back in Jan., and paid $180 for them. They are really messing with the flights. It's driving me crazy. It's Sunday...how can I tell? Well, if I go to my itinerary with Delta, the flights have changed yet again!! Almost every Sunday morning I find a different flight time or number. And my seats are now unassigned. Delta reps keep telling me not to worry, that I won't lose those seats if I don't call. Still makes me nervous. You would think they would wait until late August to start messing with the fall flights. No wonder they are so heavily in debt....they have to pay all those people to first make the changes, and then to address our phone calls!!!

I am beginning to get very frustrated with Delta! My return flight from MCo has changed from a 7pm departure to a 3pm departure, 4 hours!!!!!!!!!!!! My ex-DIL works for delta out of Providence and there are some major changes taking place in Providence and Boston. She is very worried about her job and she has been with them for 13 years.
The good news, I have no problem going through Atlanta, so we will and will now leave at 6:24 pm. yes, they are going through some big problems and I understand everyone's frustration, I am frustrated too, but I see the other side through Carri and it is tough going for them.

I'm glad I'm not the only one going crazy! We have a big family reunion trip planned at Disney for this fall, and due to the kids school limitations, I just can't drive. I'm trying to watch all the airlines in the area at least until JetBlue dates come out and I swear I'll have grey hair before it's done! And I truly feel for the employees. I know it's not their fault and I would hate to have my job in jeopardy for reasons beyond my control. I work in hospital and although it can be crazy, at least there will always be patients of one kind or another!

Delta flights from BDL to MCO have gone up almost $200 each in the last 2 weeks and almost that much from BOS. Southwest hasn't release flights for me yet (late Aug). I hate not having my flight yet!!! Someone please tell me I can do better than $350 RT per person!!

Pooch

It looks like delta is only posting refundable airfares on the site right now. The december flights I am looking for are $1027 - that is just stupid! I am now waiting for SWA before I book.

All the airlines will be working to reduce capacity this year, to address profitability problems, not just Delta.

While I do understand, and sympathize with the airlines, it's hard to believe that all these 10-15 minute changes in flight times are doing much to put them into a profit zone. I have had my May flights, booked in Jan., change 5 times now...almost every Sunday morning. And my flights in Oct are doing the same thing. Why can't they just leave them alone until just before the flights...then tighten them up. But these myriad changes are driving me nuts. And the last time, a week ago, that Delta changed my flights, both May and Oct, I called them to get my seats reassigned. The 'not so patient' rep told me I really didn't have to call every time. Well, then why do my seats stay as unassigned until I do?! I'm traveling with another mom and her dd in Oct. Our dd's would really like to be close to each other..right now rows 23 and 24. But, our seats keep getting unassigned...no way am I trusting Delta to keep those two reservations in the correct rows. So, I call them every week and it's a huge pain. If they just waited until the early fall to start messing with those flights it would make much more sense.
And even JetBlue is messing around with flights. So...my advice to all of you who fly....if you see that I have posted and that I am flying at a particular time, if I were you, I would avoid flying at that time.!!!!

I refuse to book on Delta from BOS until they have finished integrating the Song line into their main line schedule. I think you're just asking for trouble booking with them more than 30-60 days in advance right now.

And I think Delta's waiting until Jet Blue publishes its fares for the fall before releasing their own actual fares.

It is very hard to understand an industry if you don't make it the major focus of your time and attention. I know things about software development that the average Joe would never imagine could be true. I'm sure my neighbor could tell us things about home construction, and my brother could tell us things about colleges and universities.

I think the biggest eye-opener recently for me with regard to the airline industry was how much pillows cost!

No argument here!!! I just can't understand the 'tweaking' they do so far out. I know they are going to change the flights many, many times before I fly..especially if I'm booking at that old 331 day window. That is something that I am getting increasingly hesitant about doing. So....I'm waiting for JB to open up the fall window. Then, later this spring..hopefully Delta will get it's act together, and I can make an informed decision for Dec. I just got so spoiled flying with Song....just loved it!!

One thing to keep in mind is that the Karmarkar algorithm (which I assume they're still using) is both deterministic and discrete. It makes no sense to staff a flight with four and a half flight attendants, so small changes to any of the thousands of variables in the model would be reflected a whole host of changes, because each change must be a "whole" change.

Here's my guess. The rep is trying to brainwash you into not reselecting seats so others, notably business travelers, can get those seats after a few weeks pass and you did not call.

Feel free to telephone and reselect seats as you please.

They may be reconfiguring their computer data bases. Given them a few days to iron things out, or give them a month or so to engage in a fare war before you buy.

I have seen car rental companies start off with high rates, like $100. a day or $450. a week for a small car, and a little later they add lower rates.

About 3 weeks ago I booked our December flights Boston to Orlando on Song because the prices was $177 pp which I was happy with and the times were good and they were non stop (this will be the first time flying for my 3 kids so I wanted non stop).

Now I look and my flights are on Delta, which I understand is taking over Song, my seat assignments are gone and like the previous poster my flights have changed 3 times! Mine are only changing within a 30 minute window but each week it seems to be a new flight number/time.

I also looked and seats on these 2 flights I have are over $1000 a seat now. Even looking at Travelocity or FareChaser I am not finding low priced Non Stops Boston-Orlando for our dates.

I am glad I booked. I know I could have waited for SW to release their schedule but I just wanted it out of the way. I had told myself that if they were under $200 a piece I would be okay with it.

Finding all of the same problems you are all stating with trying to book out of BDL(CT) delta is really messing things up and going to chase people away from flying with them.....

Given a choice* between booking earlier or booking later, there is nothing to lose by booking earlier except for a fare decrease later.

You can always reselect flights if a significant schedule change occurs, and the airline has to honor the fare you already paid. Just check back often so you can catch a schedule change earlier before any alternate flights you like get sold out.

* When it is not a peak travel date.

I checked our flights DAY-MCO, May 9-13 on Sat. and our flight was not showing up. I logged into to DL and it still showed up in my itineraries, but seat map was not accessable. I called DL and agent said it had not been cancelled. Sun. I logged in and yep they changed our flight. Went from non-stop to connecting thru ATL. The wierd thing is the same non-stop flight is still available for the day before & the day after. :confused3 Well the good news is we added another day to our trip :cheer2: and got our non-stop flights back. Now I'll keep checking several times a day to keep up with them.
Bad news AAA discount was not available for the added night so had to switch from PORFQ to POR.

We are waiting for Jet Blue too. I am too nervous about all the Delta/Song integration problems...And, I want non-stop (we will be flying with DS7, DS2, and DS1 and I am not moving off the plane until it gets to Orlando :rotfl: ) Anyone know when the flights for Oct are coming out?

Well, all I know is that I booked my dh and dd on a JB flight, non-stop leaving Boston at 7:10 pm, on May 16, for $79 each one-way. It has changed to a connecting flight (at JFK!) and leaving Boston at 4:55...still arrives at MCO at 10 pm though. And the price went to $199 each!!
I'm seriously thinking of rebooking with Delta for a day later. I'm flying Delta a few days before them, and that flight has changed 3 times in a month!! I booked my Oct trip with Delta and that has changed 3 times also, and will probably change at least three more times before Oct. I have a trip in Dec that I'm hoping to book JB on...but who knows when they'll open their fall/winter window!!!
